By no means am I in a position to buy one, but I was wondering how Vacheron compared to the Patek and AP in the “big three”. Tend to see many more PP’s and AP’s around. It’d also be great to see any owner’s ones as they’re a rare sight to see imo.

Yup not many VC owners probably due to value retention in comparison. Shame it is often overlooked as they do have some really beautifully designed watches that's quite reserved and does take a certain amount of appreciation. The more I understand and learn more about VC the more I love what they do.

Also every VC boutique I've been to has always been welcoming and accomodating.

So far I've only seen a few VCs being worn in the wild but they are usually the Overseas models. I'd love to have the blue dial but unfortunately I'm unable to pull it off with my slim wrist.

Here's my VC Fiftysix Day date for some eye candy smile
I don't mind having a Traditionnelle too but maybe in the future.

Controversial I know, but I think PP and AP have become 'status' or 'statement' watches, in the same way Rolex did.

They are no longer unknown brands that only proper watch aficionados have heard of.

They have become popular, lots of 'influencers' wear them and the buyer demographic has changed.

I don't believe that has happened with VC and they are still a very classy and 'under the radar' choice.

Mine's quite elderly smile

I've edited the serial number

Talking to the horologists who service my watches, they say that Vacheron and A.P. have nicer
movements than Patek.

I don’t own one, but the latest version of the Overseas comes terribly close to being my ideal watch – fine finishing & watchmaking combined with a surprisingly sporty/durable specification. Add in the three included quick-change bracelet (and what a bracelet…), rubber & leather wear options, and Vacheron have really excelled.

Too right, watches of Switzerland selling new the absolutely beautiful Fiftysix Day date for £15,000 but chrono24 have numerous unworn mint examples, full set for £10- £11,000

With everyone wanting SS Rolex and AP it really is a great time to buy anything else.

An unworn 2019 Vacheron Constantin fiftysix day date is now cheaper than most of the Rolex GMT 116710LNs listed on chrono24. That was a £6000 watch a few months ago.

Madness.

Absolutely! That's a stunning watch. I normally find the VC range to be either too plain or just not to my taste, but yours I really like smile

Beautiful watches kelv. I love your VC.

Is it 40mm the same as your sub? How do they actually compare in the flesh? The sub presumably has bigger lugs and looks and wears a lot bigger?

Thanks Snubs. I quite like the blue dial date FiftySix but then makes no sense to have 2 FiftySix? I was really contemplating on getting another.

Thanks Stovey, it wears the same as the sub but much thinner and less overall bulk. It's very easy to wear too as it's not too dressy.

One of my favourite brands, the Overseas is a fantastic watch and as mentioned above, a brand that currently flies much more under the radar than PP and AP. Tried one on in Edinburgh a few months ago..

I have had this for around 5 years now and can compare to AP Royal Oak and PP Nautilus.

The Overseas is a more robust less delicate watch than either the AP15400 or any of the Nautilus (5711,5712,5726 or 5980).
Bracelet is very good, watch feels more Rolex like than AP or PP which both seem delicate. Rare to see another one in the wild - I have only seen one other being worn.

I love that Chris 56 wears the 'overseas' and not the '56'

Oh dear. I'm just about to get a Lange to scratch that itch. Now I'm reminded that I've had a VC irritation in the past. How could I possibly get that past Mrs M?

They do make some beautiful pieces.

Maybe hang off a bit and see what the Lange sports watch is like, if the rumour turns out to be true.

Too late! But it's a great deal and I'm happy. smile

I'm having a hard job resisting the new overseas chronograph with the panda dial, particularly with a big birthday (for me...not the wife) coming up next year.

The three straps make the watch extremely versatile and the finishing was excellent on the one I tried on. The fact that VC isn't as obvious is a massive attraction to me.

I am regularly surprised by the numbers of PP and AP I see on people's wrists in London, particularly in my gym, and it makes me want something different and less of a status symbol.

I have to agree there, every time I visit London/ Knightsbridge it appears every other male is wearing a Rolex day date; a Royal Oak or a nautilus/aquanaut. I’myet to see a vc.
I think vc is the perfect brand for under the radar luxury at the moment. Though who knows where the next trend will go.

Exactly that, I used to really want a Royal Oak or Nautilus but they just don't seem as special to me any longer - I see far too many around to consider them as exclusive as they might be elsewhere.

With all three being Gerald Genta designs, the three are quite closely linked. I suspect most people who don't know about the brands would consider the VC to be the poor relation (relatively speaking!), which has its own benefits (not quite as flashy) and drawbacks (poor resale...if it ever gets sold).

Perhaps I shouldn't be bothered by who else wears the watches I like but this undeniably changes the image of the brand for me, particularly when the people wearing them are often utter tools.

I started a thread about the Overseas in April or May. I seen one in Harrods and it blew me away. I own a 15400 Royal Oak and the Overseas is every bit as good. If I had another £20k for a watch just now I would buy a Chronograph Overseas in a heartbeat.

It makes me wonder what someone would buy a ceramic Daytona for double retail but you can get a hand made watch with a the Geneva seal for same money.

The 15400 is a really beautiful watch, very understated, particularly compared to the ROO, which is what I was really referring to in my other previous post.

The three strap system on the Overseas adds a lot of diversity, hopefully it’s as robust as one would hope it to be.
