Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has

Yes it’s £9300. Been waiting 18 months but was actually after an Explorer 1.
I suppose I just wondered if the extra width at 43mm sort of stabilised it a bit. We’ll see!
It’ll be replacing a rather battered Hulk from 2011! I only found out how much they’re selling for earlier this year and have since stopped wearing it for DIY!
I would just be a little wary of selling it straight on if you decide you don't like it but stillw ant to purchase (I assume) an Explorer from the sale dealer, I saw a story online a couple of weeks ago where someone did something similar with a Goldsmiths Branch and bought a Rolex, they claimed just to keep in good favour with the AD and sold it on quickly, the AD (Goldsmiths) found out and have blocked them from future purchases with themselves as they don't want to sell to flippers so it has backfired on that occasion. |I personally would say if you don't like the watch politely turn it down and wait for what you do want but i'm sure others will disagree.

Yes, I’ve heard similar. My Dad has said he’ll have it if I don’t want it so it won’t be getting moved on - just nice to know that if I needed to get rid it wouldn’t be a ‘loss’. He’s another who utterly ruins watches - his 16600 looks even worse than my Hulk! |I personally would say if you don't like the watch politely turn it down and wait for what you do want but i'm sure others will disagree.

Nothing wrong with that. They are designed to be worn in my opinion and not kept hidden away in boxes. The marks add to the character. Crumpet said:

Any pics of the Hulk? I do like to see a well worn Rolex and a Hulk being battered is rare thing surely d8mok said:

I’ll have to take some later, but imagine a Hulk……battered! I’m worried that when I send it for a service they’re going to want to replace the bracelet as the clasp is bent! Got some of the knackered SD…..To be fair I used to wear it everywhere, it’s been to over 100 countries! But someone tried to mug me last year and I’ve switched to wearing an Apple Watch at work.

I’ve just been offered (and said I’ll take) a 126600 Sea Dweller but have never seen one in the flesh. How do they sit? I had a 16600 and found the depth a bit…..annoying.
As this thread is about the Rolex bubble, am I likely to take a hit on this if it isn’t for me or are they fairly strong on the second hand market? I’m not a flipper, but if I don’t get on with it it would be nice to know it’s not going to cost me!
They sit and wear fine. But its no thinner than the 16600 and has an extra 2mm diameter so if you didn't like that, you won't like this! I am waiting for one ... I have an 116600 and its great ... an extra couple of mm won't be an issue as I've tried it and I do not have large wrists. And yes, I have tried a Deepsea which I do find too large because of the extra depth.
I would take it, wear it and see if you bond with it. If not, then you'll make a few quid

It’s interesting how brand perception is evolving. In 2002 I wanted a sub, they were in the window and I went in and bought one.
It’s been on my wrist every day since, work and holiday, been in hundreds of swimming pools and through sea swims and I didn’t give it a second thought.
Over the years I’ve had the odd comment but essentially it was a solid watch that was hewn out of granite owned for reasons of purpose and reliability rather than to say anything about me.
About 2 or 3 years ago I came to the view that it has lived its life and I would put it in the safe for my son to have as something with patina and a few memories for him when I’m pushing up daisies in hopefully a good few years.
I was surprised by the market and how the brand seems to have changed. I respect peoples choice to like the watches now but to me they seem to have become ubiquitous and become somewhat vulgar with it. They were at one time a discerning buy now they appear the complete opposite.
That said, I can’t be bothered to play the game and thought I’d be happy to pay overs from one if the resellers as none of the above matters. I’d be buying the watch for the same reason as I bought my original 20 years ago and it’s my watch, bought for me and no other reason.
However the more I thought about, the more I realised that there was a danger I’d be mistaken for the kind of person that does care deeply what others think (although if I think this way maybe I am!) and is desperate to have a Rolex to show off to other instabook types who are all faking it until they make it/fail.
All in, although I like to think I don’t care what others think, I didn’t want to be mistaken for the kind of person who wants to be seen wearing a Rolex.
Accordingly I bought a Tudor Black Bay which, despite the celebrity tie ups, gives me what I want (reliability first and foremost) but without making me feel like a conspicuous consumer/wannabe influencer
I don't get posts like this. You've come onto a Rolex thread to say you have a Rolex, wanted to buy another Rolex (and tell us price isn't an issue), but instead bought a Tudor because you don't want others to think you care what they think about you. It’s been on my wrist every day since, work and holiday, been in hundreds of swimming pools and through sea swims and I didn’t give it a second thought.

So actually you ended up without the watch you really wanted because you do care what others think??

Haha, i thought exactly the same.
No - as I said, it was my default first choice and then I realised I no longer wanted one because of their (changed) image. It does seem hard to grasp for some people that not all of those without a Rolex on their wrist must desperately want one and/or not be able to afford one.

With regards to the bold, it is absolutely the case that some just don’t like Rolex, or prefer other brands for various reasons. Or they used to like Rolex, but don’t like them anymore. It does seem hard to grasp for some people that not all of those without a Rolex on their wrist must desperately want one and/or not be able to afford one.
I know a few people who own some really nice pieces, but have never even considered a Rolex.

May I ask, why the Air King?
Thanks!May I ask, why the Air King?
The Air King…..well, a few reasons actually (I know it divides opinion - probably more to the hate side!).
Firstly, I like the look. I like the size better than the 36mm Explorer, despite really liking the design, but don’t like the design on the 39mm Explorer.
But the main reason is that it’s just a little less bling than the rest of the sports range. A bit more subtle and a little less showy - particularly if worn on a NATO like I plan. And given some of the stories about muggings and attacks for Rolex watches I’m actually really rather wary about wearing my current watches in certain places.
Since the attempted mugging for my Hulk I’ve barely worn it and that’s a shame because, as I said, I used to wear it everywhere no matter what I was doing. Given the price of the Air King is a bit more reasonable and given that it’s also not that desirable, I’m just hoping I can have another Rolex that I can wear anywhere without worrying about it. One that ends up as battered and well worn as the Hulk!

My 126655 isn’t exactly subtle and I’m keen to avoid a similar situation.
