You are several years too late. Would be terribly embarrassed to be associated with Rolex after the games that have been played in the market and the hype machine trying to keep it up. All the people I know abandoned expensive servicing well over 5 years ago and moved to Apple Watch/ Garmin.

I’m slowly selling mine. Only a DJ and SD to go.
Same here,i sold 8 or 10 last year and bought a nice little house at Poole Harbour. At least that cant get robbed off me! smile
Either you sold some "big bits" or it was indeed a little house, what with it being Poole Harbour.

As for it being robbed from you, the government might try! If it is not your main home that is. They really don't like people owning more than one property - and none of the parties appear better than another in this respect.

They're fine with it they just make you pay for the luxury! Especially if it's a business.

In a world where people sell watches to purchase a house there are people relying on food banks. I can see why governments may want to equalise it a little!

I have no ill will towards the poster or anyone for that matter with a second home, it's not a dig at all, people in my family have second homes, I am just pointing out the reason for heavy taxation, probably in an over simplistic and flippant way!

In a world where people have access to food banks, there are others who have no regular access to food at all. Or clean water. But that's the World for you.

Don't get the idea the government wants things to be more fair.

Absolutely - I used to be a Crime & Intelligence Analyst (now more general geostatistics and epidemiology). The standing joke among analysts was that you could stay in bed all day, just relabel the indices of deprivation map as whatever you were supposed to be looking at, email that in, and no one would ever know.

The impact of second / third / AirBnB home ownership on communities in coastal locations is very significant. And government actually makes it even worse . . . all those “grand designed” ex-fisherman’s cottages are registered as businesses so that maintenance is before tax . . . then the owners raked in dollops of COVID cash on top.

Which they can then spend at the Rolex AD on their fourth watch of the year.

My experience is quite the opposite. I see a generation of younger people who I thought would just wear a smart watch but are actually into mechanical watches as well. It doesn't have to be a Rolex, plenty of other brands out there.

Nothing - it was paused as the mods were unable to do their duty for a while as they were laughing so much.

It was also - but not by design - strangely on point. I had a wail that ‘my’ AD (next nearest is 25 miles) is demonstrably never, ever, ever going to let me have an AirKing.

Were that to ever change - allocating stock to peasants rather than powerfully built company directors - would be a clear bellwether of a collapse in the market. (To be fair to Rolex ADs in general, my local (independently owned) AD’s allocation seems particularly egregious).

Funny thing happened to me the other week, got a call from my AD and I instantly thought my GMT had landed, nope not a hells chance, they just wanted me to update my details on their bll shte list as it was close to 5 years ago when I registered an interest, they might even have a shock if they ever do call me as im not really sure I would still want to buy one

Its like shooting fish in a barrel on here.

Post a comment like the above and its followed by 3 or 4 pages of the usual suspects having a go as they just cannot resist, and others on the sidelines chuckling away eating their popcorn.

The number of Swiss watches sold is around half of what it was in 2000….

Is that so. I am surprised.

I cannot help but think mechanical watches will at some point cease to be anything other than curios, though. But wearable tech will need to be self-charging.

I'm not so sure. I sense that there will be an enduring fascination for mechanical 'jewellery' and that old fashioned watches will comfortably co-exist alongside the tech stuff.

Are you talking about younger people who would do anything to appear to have the latest hottest hype items? Sorry to burst your bubble, but no professional workers I know of wear expensive watches anymore. They abandoned them for Apple Watch mostly over five years ago - need to get them portfolio updates. It does not surprise me one bit that watches are hyped up in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. Unfortunately, a large number of customers are not done-with-it customers, so hype beast customers are left holding the bag. I would say most of the people I know still have their Daytona's and Sub's, but these have been relegated to the back of the drawer as functionality, precision and design take precedence - yeah, the Apple Watch wins here hands down!

For me, the Daytona was one of my normal watches, but I haven't seen the need to wear it in years. Glad I was in so long ago as the brand has allowed itself to be hyped up in a vain attempt to look cool. Having show-off customers was the nail in the coffin for Rolex. A very tacky and gaudy brand it is now no thanks to its customer base and the endless shilling online - a younger person's game.

No, I'm not talking about the sort of young person who would do anything to have the latest hype item...I genuinely don't really know people like that.

I'm a working professional, I tried a smart watch for a week and then fobbed it off to my teenage son. Two weeks later my teenage son told me he didn't want it. He now wears my 25 year old completely scratched and battered Breitling to school and is chuffed with it

I only got into higher end mechanical watches a few years ago. I wore a Casio G shock for years, and both my boys wore a G shock as well.
If you have a smart phone I see no reason to have a smart watch as well, it's idiotic imho.

You seem very angry about something, I just don't quite understand what it is.

Cool, so your son enjoys branded hand me downs. No surprises here. BTW, was your smart watch an Apple Watch in steel?

No need to divert. It's good you got in to watches during the hype. The cool kids have already enjoyed the fun and got out. Why don't you pay the 10+ year ago retaill price for a pre-owned 10+ year old watch that was bought at deep discount back then (what a rort), or wait 5 years for Rolex AD to give you the call (the desperation). How funny, I really see no reason I'd be "very angry".
