Genuine question here then - where is the owner of that Tudor sitting financially a few years down the line from purchase? Are we talking big gains, big losses? No movement?

I'd call custard if someone said they had both.

When I compare those I understand it a bit more now... Tudor is the watch you buy when you wanted a Rolex but couldn't afford one? A (presumably well made at the price) watch but a knock off none the less?

one. Hope that helps. I'll have less than one if Corona keeps going... which is how I ended up in this thread in the first place (googling Rolex prices and landing back on Pistonheads)

Loads of people buy both Rolex and Tudor, amongst other combinations.

I’ve got a GMT and a Sub and would happily buy a Black Bay Tudor.

You'd buy one in the exact same colour? Fair enough, as I say I'm not a watch guy but that kinda sounds to me like buying a ferrari f430 in red... then buying a MR2 badged as a Ferrari also in red. I can't see where I'd use the 2nd one if I had the first...

That's a poor analogy. I had a Murcielago as well as an MR2. I didn't re-badge the MR2, quite happy with it as an MR2.

If things get tight financially I might trade down from the GMT to the copycat Tudor, and see if anyone even notices.

Yes, same colour.

I only like black bezel watches so colour stuff like Pepsi/Batman/Hulk etc are not much interest to me, so I would own a Black bezel Tudor alongside my black bezel GMT/Sub etc amongst other brand black bezel dive watches I own.

I would probably wear the Tudor far more to be honest. Almost never wear my Rolex models. I wear Breitling/TAG dive watches everyday instead.

The weird thing is, the Rolex GMT Master is massively overpriced and yet the Tudor Black Bay GMT is, in comparison, a massive bargain.

Why anyone would go for the former rather than the latter is beyond me.

biggrin I did mean if someone had both of the ones I posted, ie a Rolex and a Tudor replica one.

Perhaps I'm just not getting it but with those one looks deliberately made to look as close to the other as possible.

Overpriced in what way?

I could sell mines tomorrow for thousands more than I've paid for it. I appreciate I took some capital risk there but it wasn't exactly a massive gamble was it.

How much is that Tudor going to be worth in 2024? How much is a similar Tudor from 2016 worth today?

Very nice selection Mr Dinner hehe

The wife and I love both brands, and as you say, affordability has nothing to do with it!

ETA I see what you mean about the similar styles of watch...the Sub and BB58 are fairly similar but on different straps serve different purposes.

Yes I did sell the Tudor, I did buy the Tudor AFTER Rolexes

I sold the Tudor because the overall look was too similar to the Rolexes and I didn’t want to part with any of them more than the Tudor

You sound a bit Clarkson in denigrating the Boxster against the 911, when he said the Boxster is the car your bought when your life didn’t work out as planned

I'm only going on a very quick google/PH search, as I said I'd never heard of Tutor a few hours ago. I've zero idea on how well they're made, how the dealers are, or how they hold up in value.

Its pretty silly for someone to be called a troll because they've never heard of some weird niche brand, despite them already saying they couldn't really care less about watches overall.
