Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has

Nowadays, it's look at me, I've got a sub. Ain't I so cool.
It’s not though is it. Those are your thoughts. Your thoughts that you are projecting on to others. It’s worth reminding ourselves occasionally that perhaps we are not the center of the universe and not the only individual that is capable of seeing things as they are.
It may surprise you to learn that many people wear Subs because they like them and couldn’t give an idle sh*t what you or others think that means.

I was offered the chance to try them on in my local AD
I made a hash of quoting this earlier; I was just wondering whether you needed to be on their list of select 'tryers-on' before being allowed to do so, or whether you heeded to have tried on other brands before graduating to trying on a Rolex?DoubleSix said:

And that is why this is a discussion, I'm putting forward my point of view and you doing the same with yours. It’s worth reminding ourselves occasionally that perhaps we are not the center of the universe and not the only individual that is capable of seeing things as they are.

Personally, I'm moving away from the 6 digit sub as it just attracts too much of the (wrong) attention. I've got no problem with vintage subs just not the 6 digits that you seen flexed on social media.
I love my 114060 as it was my low key watch on a rubber b. But nowadays, it's just giving the wrong vibe in my eyes. Rather wear my Tudor Pelagos or Black shield to be under the radar.

Not going to happen as that is what Tudor is for. Rolex is going to try to be VC/Patek, it seems.
Exactly as I see it. Tudor become the new ‘Everyman’ tool watch whilst Rolex become wow factor. Expect Rolex RRPs to sky rocket over the next few years. Tudor need to up their quality levels to that of current Rolex though if this is the game plan.
You can see it in their current offerings.
BB GMT
Their new BB Chronograph
BB58 for a vintage Sub feel, Pelagos for a proper ‘tool watch’ aesthetic
Alternatively just get an Omega. Lovely things, better movement, available, wonderful finishing etc etc.

Most "normal" people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Sub or Tudor steel diver, would they?Personally, I'm moving away from the 6 digit sub as it just attracts too much of the (wrong) attention. Unless they're close enough they can read the brand name on the dial

Assuming that’s what the wrong attention is about.

Can’t see any criminals who are about to rob you being deterred because it’s a tudor instead of a “6 digit sub”

Career criminals will easily recognise a Rolex. They will not bother targeting a Tudor. You'll find most watch thefts are not spur of the moment but actually targeted.Assuming that’s what the wrong attention is about.
At the end of the day, everyone has a different threshold on what amount of risk is worthwhile but Rolex theft is something close to home for me. My brother was tailed back to his home and robbed of his Rolex at knifepoint. Maybe that's why I am more cautious than most on here.
Does not this quote from a Rolex dealer rather summon up the approach " I’ve always sold the Explorer 1 as the Timex without the stigma of low cost"
Its as daft as the adverts we get suggesting that you are socially inadequate unless you have the latest I Phone. Are people really that shallow?

Imagine:
Rolex ramps up production by 200%
Pre-owned priced start to go back below RRP
Dealers aggressively advertise discounts, 2-for-1 etc.
Rolex launched GBP 2999 entry level model (with a few Nautlius design cues) with an affordable first-buyer finance scheme
Absolutely right. And we have a car maker example of just that - Morgan.Rolex ramps up production by 200%

Some will buy products purely because they want to own that item, and they won't care what anyone else thinks. Its as daft as the adverts we get suggesting that you are socially inadequate unless you have the latest I Phone. Are people really that shallow?
Some will buy products purely because of the image it projects, not because they personally like or want that item.
The vast majority of ordinary people will be somewhere on a sliding scale between those two extreme positions.
We all probably take into consideration what other people might think when they see us owning something or wearing something. Shoes, clothing, watches, cars, and so on.
Some will deliberately choose discreet and understated, and some will want the flashiest shoutiest thing possible.
This is most obvious with cars. Many people/families would be absolutely fine driving round in a Renault, Citroen, Ford, Kia, etc. Almost all cars these days are quite refined and filled with the same tech and creature comforts, but people genuinely worry what others would think if they were seen in a Kia or Ford, hence why BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Land Rover sell in such numbers.
So yes, some people are very shallow, but we all worry about what others think to a small extent. It's just human nature.

Rumour control. I can confirm that all the sports models on display in the WOS group windows are NOT customers watches waiting to be picked up as some are saying.
Ooh, what are they, is this some weird Matrix type situation where you need to take different pills and talk in a hushed voice?ddom said:
