I don't think thats fair to say but in the UK and not London
Also edited to add I was/am a customer I didn't just walk in off the street. My point being that you can seemingly have a relationship with an AD that isn't predicated on spending fortunes on other things that aren't as desirable.
I'm not trying to have a go but in your original post you gave the impression that you walked in off the street and got the watch ie 'no wait list no drama'Also edited to add I was/am a customer I didn't just walk in off the street. All of which is perfectly fine, why is everyone getting upset, it's really strange.
i think the majority of people getting upset, are actually more upset about them not being in a position to make a quick buck flipping them to black market dealers and its less about not getting a watch they actually want to own.I think the "display" watches are a good thing, its nice to actually see the bloody things, i've ordered a new Sub Date from WOS, who knows whether i'll get one or not, i bought a Sub (no date) in 2019 which i've worn everyday since, as i want it to wear it i'm not gonna get upset about it if it never arrives.
I recently bought a blue dialled Datejust II I paid around £8000 I checked the market and that's the price (A1 condition/box and papers and still in Rolex warranty) so I had two choices but I wanted the watch and had to accept that it was actually worth £6000 in the trade, having lost thousands buying and flipping omegas/panerai/cartiers I've finally got a watch that is perfect for me, I just wish I'd done it when they were 5k

Good choice. I bought my navy(baton) fluted DJ2 new in 2016, £5200 after discount from an AD. IMO it's such a classic and underrated dial. I can't see myself ever selling.kmpowell said:

Indeed, you can have whatever you want instantly but you have to pay market price (grey) which of course means you're not making any £ paper gains which seems to be the thing that upsets everyone, it's all about making money rather than owning and enjoying the watch.
I’m not sure that’s true (although it may be true for some). I imagine most people are just annoyed they can’t buy the watch they want at the price it “should” be…DanL said:

But - I bought it to own and wear, rather than as an investment, and I’d only have to find something to replace it with if I moved it on.
That said, the rose gold yacht master on a rubber strap is very nice. Sadly, above my budget.
There’s a broader question about why Rolex haven’t added a couple of thousand to the price of a sub, given that there’s apparently a market for it at that price.

When I worked offshore in the diving industry, the majority of the more elderly divers and dive crew all wore a Rolex, mind you they were not all priced at silly money, my Sea Dweller was £200 in the 70’s
It’s interesting how much they’ve managed to take them up in price. I bought my first Rolex in 2003. It was a used submariner date and I paid $2,400 for it, which seems about right. Oilleak said:

Where was this?It seems there isn't so you will just have to take my word for it.
PS I drove back to my country house in my Rolls Royce (true) which was a bit dicey as it only does 10 miles to the gallon and we didn't have a full tank.
