Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has

Who exactly is f*@king the prices up… AD selling to Greys? Nothing available to buy in the AD’s! I wouldn’t dream of paying over Rolex RRP. The people buying these watches at inflated prices are creating the problem surely.
I dont plan on paying RRP which guess means quite a wait. But when demand is greater than supply in any market, official dealers will try to increase their margin maybe by demanding the sale of other items ( jewelry in this case) or selling to the grey market or maybe even buying back new items from a friendly customer at a premium to resell at an even higher premium. The thing that always surprises me is that the official dealers still sell at RRP and not higher since the manufacturer has no legal ability to enforce rrp.
So where is the problem? Its just a normal market bubble that is beginning to deflate.
Manufacturer would stop supplying them…….just like it’s kinda impossible to buy Apple iPhones/iPads etc at discounted prices.

Slightly off topic but on WatchCollecting, Why did that Cartier Santos WSSA0037 sell for over list? They are available, in stock, am I missing something?
I’ve fancied one of these for a while now and have kept an eye on the pricesIt seems that some people have had 6 month old, barely worn watches on C24 at £6k that were for sale for weeks but I’ve also seen them on WF for slightly over list!
When I first noticed them I assumed that with a list of £6.7k that I might see them around for £5k used!
I know a dealer who sold an unworn 2021 for £6,250
Not directly Rolex related but I just "got the call" on a Tudor Pelagos FXD which I put my name down for in April with an AD I have no significant purchase history with.
When I put my name down I was told I wouldn't get one this year and they were already taking names for 2023 allocations. They are pushing me to make payment before 5pm today to secure the watch and collect before Friday because they claim Tudor are putting prices up at Midnight on Thursday night and i'm top of the list.
Still tempted to go for it even though i'm not convinced by their story and it is a watch I will wear although I was on the verge of not bothering buying any new watches and putting the money into my Boxster suspension refresh instead, I have no intention to try and flip it. I have a couple of hours to think about it now

You know about the Rolex AD call scam?
It happened during lockdown but has come back to life recently, Paul Thorpe did a video on it in recent months
I’ve never been asked to make payment other than instore

That particular version doesn’t seem to be that well known but I really like it because the polished bezel really isn’t me, the watch isn’t really either but the polished bezel is just too much!

I was aware of that but thank you for the reminder, they do seem desperate for me to make the payment. I think i'll do some digging and try and call the store directly for confirmationYou know about the Rolex AD call scam?

Edit- Have made contact with Goldsmiths on an alternative number to the one they called me on and they have gone through the email and verified it is legitimate

I was asked by Goldsmiths that they had a Tudor Black Bay Pro coming in and enquired whether I was interested in seeing the watch. I had scheduled to pop into to take a look at the watch on Friday. Just got a call from the rep to inform me there's a price increase happening on Friday. Not 100% sure if that's a sales tactic... it's a nice watch but I have a feeling it's going to be a little too thick even at 39mm.

That tallies in with what I was told about price increases, The FXD is currently £3000 but i was told it goes up to £3100 on FridayJamescrs said:

Wonder if they're desperate to squeeze the sale into this quarter too, with quarter end tomorrow. I think i'm leaning towards not going for it at the moment if i'm honest, I did fancy it and I still think it's a great looking watch but as with most people rising bills is putting the squeeze on and I have been making plans to spend a fair chunk of cash on my Boxster over the winter and the cost of the watch would pretty much cover all the work I want to do. Fancy it????
I can see why the A.D wanted payment within a couple of hours of the phone call, probably to avoid customers such as myself thinking about it for too long.

Agree that's very odd!As an aside a few that didn't meet min reserve;
The Rose Gold Yachtmaster on Oyster Flex at late teens is a lovely watch.
