Just my little ode to Rolex. I wore my Sub for about 2 hours yesterday. Just looked at it on the bedside drawer & it’s still going with the correct time. No other of my watches would be…..
Are we all due a whoosh parrot here?
Isn't the point being made that after only two hours of wear the automatic winder was good enough to keep it going until the next day. That sounds pretty good to me.
Someone gets it, thank the Lord.

Paid £3670 for my Daytona in 2003 , which was rrp back in the day, surprisingly enough no discount was negotiable.

Still got the price sticker on the box.
Mine was exactly the same price in September 2004 wink
I remember the salesman trying to get me to put my name down for the soon to be available 'LV' when I picked it up, didn't really like the look of it so didn't bother, probably not the smartest 'investment' move I've ever made but I just bought what I liked, up until then the collection had been predominantly Heuer's.

Bought my second Daytona ( black faced ) for the same price in 2005 , still got it bnib and never been worn , all stickers in place as well ! , remember them ?

I was offered a LV from stock and refused it as I didn’t like it , I’ve just recently been looking at one and it’s been sold at £13k

Hindsight, you get the best view.

That was an excellent article and led me on to an expensive obsession with vintage watches. IIRC, Daytona's were around £4,600 new and £5,500 grey at the time.

Can't find the article anywhere online though, so if anyone on here remembers it/has a copy/can point me to the issue number smile
I really don’t throw anything away paperbag

But did you run a World Record marathon in that two hours or did you slump into the sofa and have a two hour nap?

It wouldn't seem to be a particularly reliable or precise unit of comparison... wink

In this this episode we talk to Roman Sharf all about the ups and downs of the secondary Rolex market.

"Roman is a very experienced knowledgeable watch trader and this is definitely the best analysis and explanation of the luxury watch market over the last few years I have heard !"

I’m not a “watch person”, per se - I don’t have a collection of watches or any desire to own several. You can only wear one at a time, after all!

I’ll give you an honest answer. I bought mine because:
1. I love the look of it, and
2. It’s a Rolex.

There are plenty of other watches that look similar enough to mine and cost a lot less, so it’s obviously not just about the styling. The brand makes it a clearly recognisable “expensive” watch, and as a result a bit of flash. I wear branded clothing, I drive an (old) German car, I own a Rolex. I am a walking cliche, and a marketing man’s dream. biggrin
Thats a commendably honest post Dan. But the " I wear branded clothing, I drive an (old) German car, I own a Rolex. I am a walking cliche, and a marketing man’s dream " puzzles me. Would the average Joe know what make of clothes you were wearing and for that matter, what brands of clothes go with the bit of flash? I wouldnt have a clue. What (old) German car is up there with it - leaving aside the true vintage I guess a gull wing merc might but nothing much else comes to mind.

But you are right. British men like uniforms of the casual type. You see guys whose hobby is sailing wearing a lot of Musto gear. The hunting shooting fishing types in lovat green. Army officers in civvies are almost instantly recogniseable as such. So we do pick up on these sort of things. Even down to shoes - are they old leather or trainers type footwear

And neither will my Grand Seiko with the much-vaunted Spring Drive movement. Just checked!

Disappointed - no it didnt. But it is an epic thread given that its about the imminent collapse of Rolex prices yet most of the posters say that they dont care about the prices! Or to put it another way, 500 pages of posts about something the posters arent interested in.confused

Whilst I’m in the topic of Daytona’s, will the yellow gold with white face likely be easy ish (easier) to obtain. Caught my eye after I tired in a zenith Chrono sport rose gold. Like the look but less pink (pink gold) so the Daytona fits that
