Bought in Saudi in 1992 ish for about £80. Been to the bottom of the Gulf, Red Sea and a deep fresh water well near Qatif while me and my mates were drink-diving at 4am. Happy days!

Bloody lovely-a true classic!

So, after a bit of delay I called in to the shop after work this evening and picked up the Blue/Blue F1.

Really happy with it now!
If you don’t mind me being nosey, I’m after an F1 next month for my 40th. Did the store price match any web prices? Best web price I found for the model I’m after was nearly £300 lower than the high street. Goldsmiths claim they’ll price match authorised dealers online prices.

I got a bit of a discount but the store said that they are tied by Tag Heuer on the prices when I pushed for a bit more. Obviously I don't know if this is true but I have no reason not to believe them and it kind of makes sense.

I searched online and any list prices for new watches were similar to the list price of this one. So as this was my preferred retailer I went for this. Of course, bear in mind that this is in Ireland so a smaller market than UK. I doubt any retailer would match prices from a different country.

When I got mine, goldsmiths were a little reluctant to discount mine as it had only been released a couple of days earlier as it was a new model. When pushed I got 12% off. Also banks Lyon in Lancaster offered me the blue chronograph f1 for £1090 instead of £1295 straightaway over the phone without even asking and they will post out too.

Thanks. 6 years ago in our last place we were burgled. They left the F1, thankfully. I’d really miss it.

I've got a Tag formula 1 alarm as an everyday watch. It's properly tough. Barely ever take the thing off. It can get uncomfortable at times due to the size of the thing. (My Rolex is quite a bit smaller)

The tag is an 05 model I think. Alarm doesn't work any more and the movement looked a bit disappointing. Keeps good time though and looks smart.

Interesting thread, I am looking at treating myself to a Tag F1 I have my eye on a couple. Looking at buying brand new, are there discounts available on them if I buy outright?

Yes discounts are available, 10% is the start of negotiations, I'd be aiming for 20 to 25% off which is achievable.

I actually managed 40% but that was one of those, in the right place at the right time things.

Thank you.

Are these discounts available at high street retailers? Like Ernest Jones or Goldsmiths?
