Mine still works, but I am not brave enough to update to the latest version of the software.
It generally works ok and always has done.
Are you using it with an iPhone? It generally works ok and always has done.
Minefield.
I kept coming back to the Huawei Gt2 46mm but then found some reviews saying that it needs bespoke apps to work properly, inaccurate sensors, and no Wear OS.
It sounds like I want Wear OS if I want to take advantage of Google suite of capabilities. I don't use iPhones (currently).
So, given that I will likely have the watch when I change phone, and I *might* go back to iOS i don't know what to use. I think Wear OS will still work with it as google services are available over the Apple spectrum of functions?
All I want is:
- Accurate step counter
- Accurate HRM
In fact, just accurate sensors that operate within some minimal tolerances.
- Sleep monitoring would be nice
- NFC also desirable but I have my phone for that
- Something that looks like a watch and not some multi-coloured, fluorescent face.
I know that I don't want an Apple watch on account of not really liking the design and being locked to iPhones.
I also know that I don't want Garmin as i'm not a fan of the design and they are very pricey.

My daily:
My 2nd choice, mainly because it has wind direction/speed on it:
And no, I'm not OCD enough to make sure the outer bezel markers line up with inner bezel markers as the outer bezel gets rotated all the time to flick though menus and screens etc

Thanks, looks like I might be able to use that. Would you be kind enough to tell me what the brand and model is?My 2nd choice, mainly because it has wind direction/speed on it:

£199 from the Motorola web site. I had a gen 1 Moto 360 and really liked it, sadly the battery died so can't use it anymore.Just got the new one on Monday, so far so good, much bigger than the old one but also does a lot more stuff.
Ben
Morning all, I am getting very tempted by a Garmin but really can't decide which. I would like a Fenix but have to say that the new Instinct solar is very appealing for battery life. I am a tree surgeon and my watches do get a moderately hard life. I therefore don't want touchscreen preferring buttons as I can imagine the screen getting possibly damaged. I also happen to have 6.75" wrists so am left wondering which size Fenix would work. I am guessing the S versions? Ideally I would like to try on before I buy but currently that is easier said than done!

Instinct is more rugged than Fenix as it has a protective bezel. And a generally more robust build. And lighter. And longer battery life even with the original model.Instincts are a fraction of the Fenix price and have all the same features IIRC except colour mapping.
depends what you want.

I've disappeared up my own backside with this.
I've read a few articles now that have a pop at WearOS being the kid no-one wants and Google are still deciding whether to carry on with it and make it properly capable or bow out of this market altogether.
From what I've read they are gearing up for the latter which IMO is a good thing.
Fossil certainly still has confidence in it as a platform and another few articles I've read have stated that there is no better watch out there that runs WearOS than their Gen 5 offering.
Further, more focussed research has said it's brilliant. It's accurate, it's smart and has the backing of some of the biggest players in the game.
Except for one thing. Battery technology. As is very common it's very often the limiting factor for anything "smart". The tech just isn't there and certainly not for one who might consider themselves a "power user". Whatever that is.
They go as far to say that Fossil have made the decision to offer native battery modes to help with longevity. A full fat, mid and low power consumption setting. There will offer always-on, everything on apart from NFC and HRM, and a mode that might as well just render it a watch.
With that said I think I'm going to buy the Gen 5. Google has hinted that the battery woes are as much down to the way the OS does it's thing as much as any local or environmental variables. But they do state that getting a full 24-30 hours out of it in the medium setting is rare and on full function mode you'll be lucky to get the working day out of the way. This then means that using the watch for sleep monitoring functions etc. is difficult as you'll need to be charging it on the side table rather than wearing it through the night.
Not a massive issue for me, I'm a crap sleeper and I know this already, I don't need a watch to tell me this, and wearing a watch to bed has never been on my mind.
TL;DR - disappeared up one's own arse looking for a smartwatch. Came full circle. Still, no idea what I want but will buy Fossil G5 anyway.

I went for a Fossil Hybrid after trying a few Huawei smartwatch. I can’t be bothered with having to charge a watch, certainly not every night or every other night.
The Fossil Q Hybrid gives me notifications (albeit basic) and HR/Activity monitor. Just about all I need really. It looks like an analogue watch. Swap the battery out for a new one every few months. I think this is where I’ll stay until either smartwatches get better battery or I succumb and buy an Apple Watch.

I have a small 6.5 inch wrist. It fits great...and because it is much lighter than the Fenix I don't really notice I have it on. The rubber (silicone?) strap is also very soft and not too wideGassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
