Engagement ring help.

I used them, and they were fantastic value. The ring is gorgeous, not dissimilar to the one you show, but a colourless diamond. £2000ish IIRC. It gets admiring glances regularly.
Nearly a year of wear now and, luckily, she still loves it. It sparkles and catches any light like crazy. Even in a room with no light but the tv you can see it sparkling.
Still not as good as the engagement ring for my forst marriage which was £90 and she paid half!
I found the whole process at 77 Diamonds to be fairly straight forward and they were helpful with re-sizing etc.
That said, can anyone explain why the prices seem to differ so much for seemingly the same stone. The one in her ring is 1.5ct, F colour, VVS2, GIA cert etc, the prices seem to fluctuate by 3 grand?

The specs on your damaged stone are nothing special. In todays market, a wholesale price for a rock of that spec wil be a few hundred (£300-500).
Now what the jeweller charges to replace with labour is a different matter.
Estimate received: £1350 for the stone and £90 to set it.Now what the jeweller charges to replace with labour is a different matter.
Punchy.
I'll be happy to take a look if you want.
I've not posted here for ages as we're absolutely rammed..... and I got fed up with the "can you price match? / what's the cheapest you'll do....." emails. However, your job sounds easy enough and your quote is a tad high lol.

When I was looking 12 or so years ago, I became a temporary expert :-) I was advised by lots of people to avoid the high street shops as you are not going to get any real value for money.
I spent ages looking and ended up going to see an antique dealer who was known to my parents.
He had 2 engagement rings in when I went to look and there was a huge lozenge shaped diamond which at a glance looked pretty impressive, but had visible inclusions.
The other option which I ended up going for, is a Tiffany platinum band with a 0.70 carat - we have the official certification and I have been told it would cost about £10k to replace if sourced through Tiffany nowadays. I somehow doubt that though.
My wife was delighted when she got a beautiful Tiffany box to open and even more delighted when she opened it.
That cost me £1200 back then, which I considered a massive bargain at the time and even more so now.

£10k is dreamland. I'm glad you're not relying on that as a valuation. £4k max today in my opinion with a £5k insurance valuation if you find a toppy valuer. I spent ages looking and ended up going to see an antique dealer who was known to my parents.
