One of the few Grand Seikos that appeals to me. Well, the white dial with blue hand, specifically…..Grand Seiko always seem like a brand you HAVE to like if you’re seriously into watches. Unfortunately I don’t really see the appeal (apart from this GMT). What am I missing? I know they’re finished brilliantly. I know the movements are technically interesting.
They just leave me underwhelmed. I don’t think it’s the branding; I love Damasko, Sinn and many others that no one has a clue about. Maybe I need to try one, but at £4K or so for that one it’s a lot of money just to see what I’m missing.
i tend to agree. No offence to any owner and maybe it is a good example of the thinking man's choice... but the brand just gets in the way for me. Seiko conjures up images of the type of cheapo watch i had as a kid, or maybe the calculator watch my mate had that i was jealous of... not really a luxury timepiece or a desirable item (now that I am 43 and no longer 8).

Definitely the thinking man’s watch. Thinking about it, there isn’t a single watch in the Patek Philippe lineup that I’d want to own or indeed actually want to wear. I do, however, like a couple of the Audemars Piguet collection which, weirdly, look like some cheap Seikos! Crumpet said:

Same. Don't like the design language (either really borin or really outlandish with little in between) the thick cases, the power reserve on the spring drive watches. The only thing I love is the faces on some of them. Gorgeous.
