Couple of G-Shocks for me, the first two I've bought!

And a couple of Watchpod stands, these things are really cool!

I know none of us actually buy a mechanical watch for its accuracy, but it isn’t half nice when a cheap(er) automatic movement performs well.

My Laco, with a basic non-hacking Miyota 8000 movement, is sat resolutely at +1 seconds per 24 hrs. I’ll take that!
My red-faced Spinnaker is similar. I'm really impressed with the accuracy and it's become a firm favourite.

I've bought my current squeeze a couple of watches, but this Swatch has moisture in it. She's put a couple of cracks in the glass and I suspect that's the cause, but any thoughts on what can be done about it?

Is there such a thing as an easy replacement?

Try sticking it in a bowl of rice for a day or so, I believe that's the usual method. Uncooked, obv.

As for an easy replacement, give her another few weeks and see how you feel then.

Oh, you meant the watch... my mistake.

I'm finding getting the other half interested in watches is a dangerous game. My wife has never bothered, but I recently bought her a 35mm Gold Tissot PRX for her birthday.

She's worn it all day, every day since, and now drags me to look in Jewelers windows rather than the other way around as has always been the case.

She's a big fan of Cartier's apparently. At least I now know what to get her for her 50th in 2026..

That does look very nice indeed.

Although it reminds me yet again that I STILL am not getting any recognition for taking a punt on the excellent Pagani PRX auto homage, at £91 off Ali Express. No respect, no gratitude. I may have to flounce unless I feel the love soon.

I just ordered the quartz chrono at the same price, just to emphasise the point. H-necks, the lot of you.

Don't flounce, it's so unbecoming!!!
The Pagani PRX rep is very nice, especially for that price!!!

Apologies, I must have missed that you’d bought that. Thanks for being an early adopter.

Have we had a review, with dodgy mobile phone pictures, yet? That’s normally the way round here!

I'm kidding of course.

But now that my fragile ego has been pampered, may I refer you to page 123.

I have to say, it's in my top 5 at the moment, hence I've ordered the chrono on the Panda configuration. In the meantime, I recommend the Auto to threadists old and new!

I narrowly missed out on this beautiful old Hamilton this evening:

Which is probably just as well, as I hadn’t discussed the matter with the Wife hehe

Luckily, someone placed a higher bid than me with not too much time left, and as I was in the middle of cleaning the fish tank, I missed the opportunity to raise my bid

In other news my daughter did her first horology job, by replacing the strap on my Sturmanskie 3133.

That cost me £8 for the strap and £10 to get her to fit it.
Not too bad for 10 minutes work at 12 years old hehe.

It’s not a car. It’s one of my vans, (hence the slightly scruffy grey hoody sleeve in the photo).

The current fleet includes six manuals and three autos.

Which I guess means I’ve only sunk 2/3rds as low as you originally thought?

OK, 2/3 of life's depths is probably acceptable then.

I really don't understand why anyone still bids like this, ebay's been around for yonks, everyone should realise how it works by now.

ebay is not an auction site, in an auction there is no time limit, bidding keeps going until no one wants to place another bid. In ebay the clock ticks down to zero and when it gets there the person with the higest bid wins, regardless of whether or not someone else is prepared to bid more. . If you bid early, all you are doing is giving someone like yourself an opportunity to raise their bid. Then you have to go back and raise yours.
If you want to win an item at the lowest possible cost, snipe (bid in the closing seconds), doing anything else smply drives the cost up for everyone.

What I usually do is chuck a low bid in early doors, just so eBay keeps reminding me that I’m in the running.

Then when I get a 14 minute notification, I’ll start watching with an aim to place another bid in the last 10-15 seconds. Which is what I was doing with that Hamilton.

I was keeping half an eye on the clock, but removing several hundred bloody snail eggs from some driftwood took my attention away from the goal.

In the end that Hamilton went for £199, plus a little bit for postage.

I’d have bid up to £250 Inc postage. Whether that would have secured me the watch or not, I don’t know.

I’ve got a bid on what is currently a very cheap Mondaine Swiss Railway Watch, (not Stop2Go unfortunately), so depending on what that’s looking like in a few days, I may strike lucky.

I thought the point was to simply stick your max limit on from the start and just leave it? Who has time to watch the end of an ebay auction to snipe in the last 10 seconds?

And by the way, I'm not sure how you can blame anyone for 'pushing the cost up for everyone'? It's a free market, don't blame the buyer.

I do. smile

Not difficult. Put a reminder on your phone, jump on to the eBay app a minute before the end and bobs your uncle. People surely aren't so busy 16 hours per day, 7 days per week, that they can't find a couple of minutes for something they want?
