Omega x Swatch Collaboration

Objectively one can argue that it’s better than the original.
More accurate (quartz module vs. mechanical)
More convenient (battery vs. hand winding)
More reliable (quartz vs. mechanical, again)
Easier to service (battery change vs. a complex and expensive strip down and rebuild)
Cheaper to run (no need to pay annual insurance on a £200 watch)
But I get your point. I’m going to try to get one tomorrow and will report back!

Buts it's like saying the Duster is a better car than a Range Rover because it breaks down less
More info regarding availability:
I have been trawling through the thousands of posts on social media this morning, and it appears that quite a few people have managed to speak to Swatch Boutique staff and ask about stock levels for the launch, and the answers are fairly consistent:
Each store will receive around 16-17 of each version, so roughly 185 watches per store at launch.
Once sold out, it will take another week to 15 days to restock.
Also, it is interesting to note that stores are telling people that whilst these are not a numbered or limited edition run, they will likely only be produced for around 3 months maximum as per usual for a swatch collaboration.

Not heard that bit before but happy to believe it about a collab, quite common with a HighStreet/High End venture.Forces my hand a little, going to have to orchestrate a 'weekend away' to a City that sells them unless they filter out to the 'lesser' stores.

So, if you're not in the queue already; will probably be impossible to get one of the popular ones tomorrow! First 10 people could take out all the Moon Mission watches for example. Or they wouldn't allow that? Each store will receive around 16-17 of each version, so roughly 185 watches per store at launch.
It's going to be flipper city!
I'd LOVE one, but cannot stomach the idea of being part of some social media hysteria.
I know this is a commercial undertaking, but I applaud what Swatch/Omega have done here. If you like the design and story behind the Speedmaster, then you get the chance to own a fun take on it.
No one is going to pass one off as a real Speedmaster, it's just a nice thing to have, and, in my opinion, preferable to a fake/replica/homage.
If anything, I think it will increase interest in the real Speedmaster rather than dilute the brand.
I suspect in reality, it will look like a €200 plastic watch, but could still be fun as a beater. It will be interesting to see what people think when they get them in their hands.

I'm very interested in these. The Speedmaster is one of my all time favourite watches, but even if had the £5k in disposable available for one, there are other things I would sooner spend the money on.
These look great, cost buttons and have some provenance whilst not being a knock off/replica etc etc.
If I'm totally honest, the fact that it winds 'flexers' up just makes me want one more
Anyone who happens to be in the area tomorrow please feed back on the stock/queues

I wonder how this all came about? Seems a remarkable thing to have happened.
I’d love to have been in the meeting where it was first suggested.
If you believe GQ, and who wouldn't, "This Omega and Swatch joint mission takes the art of collaboration to the next level. The journey started nine months ago in a meeting room in Biel with Omega CEO Raynald Aeschlimann, Swatch creative director Carlo Giordanetti and Omega head of product design Gregory Kissling and Hayek all tasked with coming up with a collaboration that will hit the spot. And the Speedmaster MoonSwatch collection is what they decided on, as the CEO of Swatch Group Nick Hayek tells GQ. I’d love to have been in the meeting where it was first suggested.
“Collabs are very fashionable, between Gucci, Balenciaga, whoever is working together. But often it's just a marketing gig where you put the logos from one to the product of the other one and that's it. Here we wanted to go a step further, because we have an iconic brand like Omega, that has a product that is an icon in the Swiss watch industry, the Speedmaster. And on the other side, Swatch is an icon because it has saved the Swiss watch industry. When everybody was only focusing on luxury, Swatch was there, and Swatch is an innovator,” says Hayek. It was his late father who was responsible for saving the Swiss watch industry and today, with this collaboration, Hayek Jr may well be the man responsible for evolving it and shaping the future."
Always the big boys getting the credit, not the plebs isn't it

I popped by the swatch shop on my way home. To your second point, they look pretty decent, much as the photos show and not plasticky in any way.I suspect in reality, it will look like a €200 plastic watch, but could still be fun as a beater. To your first point, well, I had to wait my turn to view them. The guy in front of me was very keen but also had no idea what the significance was or even what a speed master was.
Guessing the stores will be mobbed tomorrow but I’ll chance it anyway, likely a mercury and mars. If not then good to know the online sales will follow.

I have just seen the watches in the flesh. They look fantastic. They look a lot more expensive than £200! I was in Edinburgh and the shop was buzzing with interest. What I loved was that the people asking questions and seeking more information were from every walk of life. Students, pensioners, women and cool cats like myself. Yesterday I was unsure what these watches would do for Omega reputation but after today I can see it as only a good thing. The Mars and Mercury were my favourite. The Moon was too close to a speedmaster. The Pluto is a lot better in the flesh than pictures.
