Omega x Swatch Collaboration

Christ, lighten up. As with the Moonswatch it's just a bit of fun and really shouldn't be taken seriously in any way. The Moonswatch is not a Speedmaster, it's just a cheap Swatch quartz chronograph that they're asking double the usual price for due to some additional branding
You must have misunderstood me. I’m a big fan of the MoonSwatch and I have two of them. Also I have many Swatches, from the first Chronograph from 1989 (iirc) to new ones. Also I’m not one that thinks this collaboration has harmed Omegas reputation in any way! The MoonSwatch is a fantastic piece of fun and it works exactly because it is made of plastic. Building a steel one is contrary to the fun ethos of the MoonSwatch.
All imho and if it makes someone happy, good for them!

In my opinion, it isn’t a fake anything. It clearly says ‘Swatch’ and ‘MoonSwatch’ right on the dial. It’s not there to fool anyone who knows anything about watches.
I like modified and customised watches and it’s good to see people customising and having a bit of fun.
If I was wearing it and someone thought it was an Omega, I would happily explain it was a custom mashup of a MoonSwatch and an aftermarket steel case. I’m fairly confident anyone enthusiastic about watches would be interested. I know I’m interested in it!
Agreed. I really like it and I am much more of a fan of a piece that has an interesting story like this, than an off the peg watch, even if it was £20k.I like modified and customised watches and it’s good to see people customising and having a bit of fun.

I really wanted one of these, went to London for the launch and didn't mange to pick one up. Finally got to hold one and it felt really light and plasticy, decided not to bother getting one as for £200 it feels over priced.
Couldn't agree more.A friend managed to pick up a Saturn on my behalf,it feels like a fisher-price child's first watch.
Probably not an unbiased opinion as I've had a few variations of the moon watch over the years, and I realise that it's not supposed to be anything like the speedmaster apart from a vague visual resemblance, however, even at just over £200 it really is a peice of over priced cheap tat.

They sold over 1000000 of the things in 2022, almost a year later there are people posting about getting one. A mate at work was showing me his moon on a NATO today. Last week he was wearing his Santos. It doesn’t matter, really, if you or I don’t like them, they are a huge success and have driven a vast amount of attention to Swatch and Omega.

Absolutely no doubt they have been a huge success but to me I didn't think they were worth the money, I appreciate that swatch isn't a cheap brand and adding omega to the dial increases the price. For me though I'd rather have a gshock or similar. It doesn’t matter, really, if you or I don’t like them, they are a huge success and have driven a vast amount of attention to Swatch and Omega.

If durability is what you want, then sure, a £100-200 G Shock will beat pretty much everything. But the MoonSwatch is essentially a fashion/fun item in my opinion, and durability isn't a priority. You are paying for the looks, the name, the branding, the 'street cred' of owning it, and so on.
I'm sure we all own things for the brand and the fashion, rather than any form of durability. I know people who buy £400 fashion trainers that are no good for running in, and would get ruined if you were caught in a rain shower.
I still want a MoonSwatch if I can buy the one I want in store, and I'm not really interested in the durability. It's not why I'm buying it.

I like the ingenuity, but the end result is nothing but a fake Speedmaster.
The whole point of this Omega x Swatch collaboration is to have a Speedmaster with a plastic case made by Swatch.
Incorrect on both counts. The whole point of this Omega x Swatch collaboration is to have a Speedmaster with a plastic case made by Swatch.
The end result is a modded MoonSwatch. Nothing fake about it.
The whole point of the Omega/Swatch collaboration is to sell more watches and make more money.
