Wedding Band Thoughts
Discussion
Guys, not a watch topic but I know we do tolerate the odd jewellery question around these parts
So I need to get a wedding band. I wear stainless steel watches only (have my grandad's gold Rotary but very rarely wear it). As such, I am looking for a ring that matches ss; silver, platinum, etc.
I do also have my grandad's rose gold wedding ring which in an ideal world I'd love to have sized for me due to the sentimental value but it is just not "me".
As someone who would otherwise not wear any jewellery I don't think I would necessarily appreciate having the best of the best (platinum?) on my finger. I am leaning towards a silver ring to keep things a bit more modest.
Does silver make for a suitable wedding band material? I know it tarnishes but it can also be cleaned... What would you do in my position?
Cheers,
Dan

I considered titanium but doesn't it have a bit of a greyer tone?
White gold I would consider. I understand it has to be re-plated periodically?
I’ve had a white gold one since 2000 and it’s still looking good. Haven’t had it replated and it’s never taken off. White gold I would consider. I understand it has to be re-plated periodically?
Ti is a darker more matt finish yes.
If you go 9ct white gold it doesn’t need to be re-plated IME.
Platinum is obviously nice but if you’re not a big jewellery person then there is probably other things to spend the money on.
You might surprise your self with the rose gold ring you have, I’d encourage you to wear for a few days.

I got married seven years ago. Had never worn a ring and didn’t think I’d get on with one so was reluctant to invest in something I might not wear. I was looking at a simple band and the jeweller suggested getting silver and having it platinum coated with the view that if I got on with it I could have a platinum one made in the same style. It was peanuts in the grand scheme of things. Seven years later and I wear my ring every day. Never felt the need to have the same ring made in platinum as this is “my wedding ring”. It barely cost a decent meal out.

I didn’t care for platinum, so have palladium. No complaints.
Exactly what I was going to say.First time round had gold but this time went for the more robust palladium and to kind of match the wife’s platinum ring
