Wedding Band Thoughts
Discussion

Guys, not a watch topic but I know we do tolerate the odd jewellery question around these parts
So I need to get a wedding band. I wear stainless steel watches only (have my grandad's gold Rotary but very rarely wear it). As such, I am looking for a ring that matches ss; silver, platinum, etc.
I do also have my grandad's rose gold wedding ring which in an ideal world I'd love to have sized for me due to the sentimental value but it is just not "me".
As someone who would otherwise not wear any jewellery I don't think I would necessarily appreciate having the best of the best (platinum?) on my finger. I am leaning towards a silver ring to keep things a bit more modest.
Does silver make for a suitable wedding band material? I know it tarnishes but it can also be cleaned... What would you do in my position?
Cheers,
Dan
If you want to wear your Grandads ring, you can have it Rhodium plated to make it silver in look. This is not a cheap skate option but it's actually common practice in the jewellery industry. So I need to get a wedding band. I've been browsing that site for the last 10 minutes!
Quite like this https://www.flinnandsteel.co.uk/collections/matt-s...
Or this in 4mm https://www.flinnandsteel.co.uk/collections/polish...
Did you go polished or brushed?
I went brushed. Wife went polished. I though brushed would be more practical, whereas my wife likes shiny things Quite like this https://www.flinnandsteel.co.uk/collections/matt-s...

We got Sheffield stainless steel rings when we replaced our wedding rings last year.
I actually quite like the idea of a stainless steel one due to my interest in watches. However, the ones I've seen were so cheap (like a fiver or so!) that they didn't seem to fit the bill as a token of the marriage as such. Would you mind sharing a bit more about what you went for?Cheers.
I need to source one before the 'not that big a day' next year, I have absolutely zero plans on wearing a ring beyond the end of the honeymoon, so it's just purely a token gesture, I've been half tempted with a Carbon Fibre one.

Think my options are:
1) Buy a platinum band and stop fannying about
2) Buy a silver band (not much love for this)
3) Go with a stainless steel one as above
4) Get my grandad's band plated

I have polished Tungsten Carbide. Bit darker than stainless steel, but basically un-scratchable. Mine is still a mirror finish after 15 years. A work colleague took a file to it after I dared him, and not a mark.
Not expensive by any means but has some weight to it so feels premium.
Mine is brushed Tungsten Carbide, with polished edges, it looks as good to day as the day I got married 12 years ago, it just doesn't mark at all, people ask me about it aswell as it is kind of a grey colour and is a bit different, only cost £80 too!!Not expensive by any means but has some weight to it so feels premium.

Same position as you when I got married in 2019.
Don't wear rings and only wear a watch. I looked at Platinum and Palladium, but as my wife said "why pay thousands for something you won't wear."
I found a local jeweller who had a selection of titanium bands. Spent a mighty £23 on my wedding band and really like it. 6mm in D profile with a brushed centre that is very slightly raised.
Saw a similar one later on, in titanium on a wedding website for hundreds. Last year as I had lost some weight, my wife bought me one a size down on a whim as it was only £23.

I have white gold that is ‘raw’ and not plated. It just looks like really light faded gold. Not yellow colour more ‘off silver’. It was mat and rough beaten finish but 23yrs of marriage has smoothed it off a bit!
The colour depends on how much gold is in the ring; all gold is yellow. I have a 9ct WG ring and 4 band 9ct puzzle ring with a WG band and they look like you’d imagine white gold to look. If they were 18ct they would look far more yellow unless they were plated.

I’ll try and get a photo (hard to catch it in natural light with iPhone). Unsure what Carat it is tbh. I just liked the look of it back in the day. Was only a couple of hundred £ at most. If they were 18ct they would look far more yellow unless they were plated.
Don’t wear it now due to fingers and knuckles swollen with BJJ and arthritis. Looking at getting a silicon band for ease of removal.
