Morning all,

Long time now speak...

I have a watch that has huge sentimental value but not financial value. Is there somewhere that can service and keep it running (and looking) sharp? It is the last thing my dad got me as a gift before he died unexpectedly and I would love to be able to keep it in as good condition as possible - it is my daily wear and has been for nearly 10 years.

Thanks in advance as I can only seem to find the usual situation for higher end watches

any decent watch repair centre can service a low end watch but sometimes it can be easier, cheaper and quicker just to drop a new movement in.

Thats certainly the case for many watches powered by seiko NH35 and 4R movements.

Depends where you are. If you're anywhere near West London I caan recommend EG Ward in Greenford. He got an old Tissot of mine working, where others failed. Pretty cheap too.

Watchdoctors in Tring do a postal service. Their website lists prices for standard fixes and services for a huge variety of brands, so you could get a good idea of what you'd be paying before you contact them.

Does it need servicing though? I work on the basis that if it's running well and keeping consistent time just leave it alone. I've got a 30 year old Seiko which has never been serviced and is running fine, I'd hate to risk anything happening to it during a 'preventative' service.

I live in the next town along and use watch doctors.
They are tucked away and unless you are looking for it you’d never know it was there.
Tiny little place but excellent service on my lower end quartz watches.

In lockdown I bought my own watchmakers kit to be able to do basic repairs so haven’t actually used them for the last year

Many thanks all for the quick replies, PH is always a decent place for solid re word knowledge.

The watch is only a cheap Nautica, but as said holds more value sentimentally than anything else I will ever possess...

Will make a few enquiries and take it from there, it needs a bit of a refresh and I would like to keep it in as good operational condition as possible.
