I work in London and spend an inordinate amount of time chasing feral scum on e-bikes and more recently Sur-on bikes..
Without sending this thread anymore off topic than it's already going....what's the sort of success rate in a 'chase'?Locally the Surron, or similar seems to be the transport mode of choice for folk up to no good, usually clothed in a hoody, face mask and goggles, and usually quite skilled in the riding of said bikes and not particularly worried about violating any traffic rules.
Unless you are on similar machinery I can't imagine you'd catch many, especially with H&S regs.

Without getting into a political debate,
Not interested in getting into one either, I'm just pointing out the reality that such laws are always ignored by criminals which leaves people vulnerable, and that due to priority policing, they will likely get away with it because the police have more serious crimes to pursue. As I've said in the past, the best path in such situations is to not raise attention to yourself by wearing an expensive watch or anything that may be considered valuable. raceboy said:

You answered your own question sadly.Locally the Surron, or similar seems to be the transport mode of choice for folk up to no good, usually clothed in a hoody, face mask and goggles, and usually quite skilled in the riding of said bikes and not particularly worried about violating any traffic rules.

It's quite hard chasing somebody in 3+ tonnes of ARV. Though the Met are using more and more suitable bikes to try and combat this.
However, I would say that we have a surprisingly good success rate at finding and arresting these people after the fact.
It's just a shame that this isn't well known enough to be a deterrent for the majority.
The reality is, even if they are caught, arrested (usually quite robustly) and then charged, the punishment dishes out by the magistrate's is as good as pointless.
Good example, the people involved in the stabbing on Bishopsgate in the City, was arrested within a day or so.

It might be possible to fight off a mugger, It won't be possible to fight off multiple attackers. Sadly it's very easy to be a criminal in London. The government does not allow citizens to legally arm themselves because it's the job of the police to protect you. The reality is that the police can't protect because they can't be everywhere so they come after the fact. Priority policing means that you'll be lucky if they come out at all unless you are stabbed.
And even then it turns into a st show as I found out…When you are told to go to the local crown court to try and find out what is happening with your case you know it’s not going well(this was over 20 years ago too…)

Criminals do bleed, it is true. I wonder if those taking issue with the comment also leave their car keys by their front doors along with a polite note saying "please take my car and don't hurt me" next to a bag of their valuables?
Might as well just donate it all to the nearest group of scumbags explaining there are no more valuables at your home and asking to be crossed off their list. With this pussy attitude its a wonder the worlds criminal gangs aren't beating a path to our shores....oh, hang on a minute.

And people still think it isn't highly targeted and aimed at watches worth nicking?
I don't thiink anyone thinks there aren''t gangs targeting high value watches. What people do think though is that watch theft isn't inclusively linked to them. Anything of reasonable value, that can be easily iidentified and reaily sold on, is a potential target. Thieves operate at all levels of the scale.tuscaneer said:

Don't climb the gate though.
oh i wouldn't dream of it.. you seem like a proper nutter! certainly wouldn't want to be bopped one on the nose by you sir, you seem well scary the way you talk all hard and that
Your lazy, thick typing being the very tip of the iceberg methinks along with jumping to the conclusion that I was referring to you as the potential climber of the gate being another.
