Maybe I missed a few posts over the last 12 pages in this thread. We can all agree that you really can't have nice things in London, whether you wear it, drive it or live in it. Who remembers this lovely gentleman? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9BnBXsbkcM&

For the members who are under 60 years of age around here, back in the day 'Rent-a Ghost' was an average TV comedy that tuscaneer was a fan of, when he wasn't busy looking through the windows of Leisure Centres at the karate kids.....

I think a lot of things are exaggerated and it is worth keeping it in perspective.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9BnBXsbkcM&
If you walk down the street in any large city wearing £20k on your wrist, then clearly you are an attractive target for a criminal. The same risk would be present in NYC, LA, Berlin, Paris, Sydney, Madrid, and so on.
But, as others have quite rightly pointed out earlier in this thread, thousands of people wear Rolex watches in London every day, and have done for years, without any incidents. Thousands also carry expensive handbags, mobile phones, wallets and so on, and the vast majority will never experience a mugging.
I've worked in London on and off for years, and I can honestly say I feel perfectly safe there. I walk around a lot, I use public transport, I'll happily walk down the street talking on the phone, and I do wear sometimes my more expensive watches whilst out and about and I don't worry about it.
I know plenty of people who have nice cars in London, including classics and so on, and they have never experienced any problems or vandalism.
Is there crime in London, yes of course, it's a big city. Does an ordinary person such as myself feel safe there, yes, absolutely, as do millions of others.
The concept that as soon as you step out onto the street in London you will be robbed of everything you own is thankfully just a fallacy. The crime rate in London is low compared to most other cities around the world.

I have absolutely no interest in debating with people who think everyone should be armed to the teeth and fight muggers to the death. They free to tie a bandana around their head and pretend they are Rambo if they wish.

Yeah it's not Rio or Guatemala City, but London is pretty bad,
I used to work in Central London at a retail store on Oxford Street when I was in my teens and the crazy stuff you see on YouTube was pretty regular if you're there every day. Shoplifting is one thing, I expect that this happens wherever there are shops. The violent aspect is another. I really don't see so much here in the US. To me it boils down to consequences. I get the impression that there's little interest in catching or prosecuting these people, so they do it because they can.
I do agree that wearing a $20k watch on your wrist is like walking around with $20k cash in your hand. It's not smart.

Small anecdote/ cool starry bra from me.
Flew back into London City airport yesterday afternoon.
Guy in the row in front of me (Club Europe, obvs) is sporting a pretty obvious and shiny rose gold Nautilus, shirt sleeves rolled up.
I thought to myself: that guy better cover up or he’s gonna be an easy mark…
A while later I spot him again waiting for our luggage at the carousel, and he’s now wearing another watch which I couldn’t even recognise, but deffo not precious metal.
Mentally congratulated him on his street wisdom…and also wondered if it wasn’t me spooking him as I ogled his watch many times during the flight

It's amazing o me how every thing everyone else ever says on the Internet is called out as a lie these days by people who can't possibly know and shouldn't care either way.
It was tongue in cheek mate.I broadly agree with Lord M's post above. I think there is a huge amount of crime that goes on and unless you happen to be there right time right place (or wrong) you'll never see 99% of it.
I've never seen any of the sorts of things that you see on that london crime page, yet they're happening daily.

This phenomenon hasn’t reached Aussie shores just yet (in any capital city).I happily wear my bi-metal Rolex anywhere in the country (not powerfully built or director or black belt).
But I get your point.

there are parts of my own city i won't go to to avoid risk. i was in london for the marathon weekend and left my watch at home as i just don't know the city at all... for me it was a case of why take the riskI happily wear my bi-metal Rolex anywhere in the country (not powerfully built or director or black belt).

It's like this in most cities. The city planners in London however seem to think that no matter how much someone spends on a decent place to live, it's okay for them to put up some no income housing next door. Effectively making sure that unless you move out of the city, you can't get away from this sort of crap.I pointed this out in another thread and got yelled at for being.... I don't know, pragmatic?
