On Sunday I'm popping in for another cup of tea and a blether as I was contacted today about another watch I hadn't asked about but has become available.
You had a go about my post before when I mentioned I only pop in every 8 weeks when I collect a watch...your right; that was false info.
My sons Datejust in January, the Bluesy in early February, the JC Deepsea 3 weeks ago and bizarrely after another poster collected yesterday, a BLNR, so not really every 8 weeks or so.
Yup...I'm all offended with the chumps that keep posting about me going in for a cuppy and a blether when collecting a new watch.
Hopefully I shall get over it.
Special moments in life deserve celebrating, maybe a cake, maybe a facebook thread with pictures, maybe a watch.
When some people don't have special moments very often, or maybe never at all within in this world, how must it feel to know that inside within a couple of months that you would have that moment again.

In general I think it's less about the affluence of the area and more about the attitude of the salesperson. I'm based in the City of London and happy to take you along to introduce you to Watches of Switzerland Broadgate if you want which is where I get my stuff. I'd probably suggest not going to the west end ADs as they're full of mega rich foreign visitors.
FYI, in general if/when you get offered a watch and you decide to take it, you usually have to collect in person within 7 days so would just make sure you can get to London relatively easily if you decide to go that route.

Interested to know how a real-life situation feels like compared to the sensation of owning a coveted piece of machinery/jewellery/branding. You've made the point many times, that you had your heart set on an Air King. It was the only watch you wanted, nothing else quite scratched the itch for anywhere near the price etc etc
Now you're saying that you will make sure it's a lifetime watch before paying. So you're not actually sure that you want the watch??

Not the 2022 . . . “my” AD let me try on a previous model, pre-owned, and offered it to me for £9500. I understand your argument, but mine was just the very specific point that if someone helps you get your grail / (perceived) perfect watch, you can’t in good conscience sell it on a year later if you change your mind.

If I was going to buy an expensive watch, I would probably buy an homage watch first and wear it for a month to make sure I was happy with the size and look.

I was considering buying a watch from Ali Express, but the dealer was insisting on delivery without protective labels and would not give me the warranty card and sapient pearwood box. I assume this was to make sure I was a genuine buyer & wasn't planning to flip the watch for a profit.The whole experience left a bitter taste. Not only did they insist on knowing where I lived before they would take my money, but they couldn't even be bothered to give me the obligatory condescendingly sneered line: "I'm sorry Sir, we don't actually have any stainless steel sports models to sell to you."
I genuinely don't understand how one is supposed to convey one's social staus when these ADs are refusing to furnish us with the requisite trappings of our prolific prosperity.
Yacht club membership is a spiffing idea. I do hope its fairly exclusive. The wife and I could do with a new set of matching yellow Helly Hanson wellies.
