Bloody hell, what a collection! Someone who has spent their enormous wealth on the finest of art IMO. Art *and* engineering combined, can't get much better than that.
Two things to note - firstly, anyone reckon he likes FP Journe?
, and secondly that collection has redefined my aspirations and desires... it'd be insane to aspire to a collection like that because I'll never *ever* be that rich, but one day I want an FP Journe. And a Lange. And I *have* to own a 'proper' tourbillon one day - not one of the CNC-machined Chinese mass-produced tourbillons that have finally started regular production, but one from a manufacture with a long history, tradition *and* innovation.
I've gone off my old aim of eventually owning a Patek. Yes, they have the history, they have the tradition and their levels of quality are probably beyond my appreciation... but I'm starting to think my original aspiration was based on wanting what I saw as the 'finest' quality, the 'finest' brand name when you think of Swiss watches. Not because of raw desire to own a piece of engineering art I could look at working for hours. So what if Journe's more complicated pieces are slightly less accurate timekeepers in all positions than Patek's perpetual calendar? They're f
king gorgeous, whereas Patek gets a rating of 'splendid'. And if I ever attain the sort of wealth that allows me to indulge in watches that cost tens of thousands of pounds... I want 'gorgeous' rather than 'splendid'. A bit like buying an Alfa instead of an Audi....
Back from dream-world, I could probably realistically own a Glashütte Original at some point (cheaper than the Lange but similar styles). Whether I could afford one of the models with interesting complications that I'd want is another question
Back to dream-world, that FP Journe 'Remontoir d'Égalité avec Seconde Morte' - is just utterly, utterly beautiful and I'd love to own it. Now that's one movement and design the ultra-clever replica counterfeiters are going to have trouble copying
