Did you follow through on that TZ article and watch the video CF? Not brilliant really, but amazing technology.Since it doesn't have a battery but uses electricity, I've decided to call the movement quautomatic.
Nope - I was hoping to find a list of innovations (I'm pretty sure they invented something called the 'magic lever' as well which was a breakthrough, but I'm still learning all this stuff!) - will watch the video this evening!Definitely like the sound of the Spring Drive though. Will be doing some investigations into these...
Woah. There's a Spring Drive chrono available, with sapphire crystal back... damn fine looking watch as well as being a *proper* innovation... allegedly Goldsmiths sell them but I can't find them on the website.
Any idea what sort of money we're talking? I guess this is the flagship of the Spring Drive range, but hell, they're not taking the piss with that. Sounds like all the benefits of both approaches, and if they've got a sapphire caseback then they've probably decorated the movement as well, could be a thing of beauty.
Anyone here got one?

It's not kinetic, just plain old battery, but its still a nice watch, with enough change from £200 to buy a G-Shock for everyday bashing around.
I too spent a few quid on a Seiko this year and am now in the market for a an Black/Orange Monster or a G shock.Of the G-shocks, I really like the Master of G range. Have a look at the Mudman, Gulfman and Riseman. I would love all of them. Plus a 25th Anniversary Dawn Black Frogman, but they are stupid money.

I'm wearing my cockpit now, I've had it a long time and it's a bit worn round the edges but I still like it.
Do like that WaveCeptor too.

Picture of the Magic Lever for those that haven't seen one. It basically ensures the main spring gets wound no matter which way the rotor turns. It's the delicate looking double clawed item the centre.A frank admission here; I've had numerous Seikos during my life but always thought they were "just another brand" so to speak, better that Timex but that serious watchmakers were Swiss. Yes, they were good enough but I had no idea until this thread started just how innovative Seiko are and I am in awe of the Spring Drive model, especially it's accuracy. It seems to me that if Seiko had, just as Toyota formed Lexus, created another name for their upper market watches then they would have created a niche market. Showing my ignorance here but then life is a learning curve which never stops. A parabola morelike really.

Keep looking for the Black Dawn, I managed to find oe for reasonable money a while back. Proper first Japanese model complete with "carbon" box and original recipts. Bargins are out there.I've also got a Mudman andit isa great bit of kit, just need a waveceptor now
Like the man says in th advert, this is style, pure style. That second hand is class. Rather like my question as to second hand value, this is selling new at half price. A real bargain IMHO.

The cheapest I've seen is about £230 at a UK online shop but I've not inquired as to if it has all the right boxes and stuff. All the ones on Ebay are "buy it now" and at £240 plus.

They've sort of half achieved it with the Grand Seiko name (All high end, different logo etc) but they're not marketed in these parts. I think the difficulty with introducing a new Lexus type brand to the watch world is that all the top names trade heavily on their history. One thing that puzzles me, is why Seiko make such a bewildering array low and midrange watches. Even the company itself doesn't seem to know what it makes, there are heaps of models that are not on any of the company's websites. On top of this, there seems to be no logic as to which watches are sold where. Why for example, don't Seiko import/sell any of there many excellent diver's watches in the UK? I know you can buy them here but they seem to be grey imports, or whatever the watch equivalent is.
