It seems to me that if Seiko had, just as Toyota formed Lexus, created another name for their upper market watches then they would have created a niche market.

They've sort of half achieved it with the Grand Seiko name (All high end, different logo etc) but they're not marketed in these parts. Also the Credor range

I LOVE that Credor - it looks amazing! At that price though I doubt I'll be owning one anytime soon sparkyhx said:

Quite right, forgot about that, and I only read that article a few days ago. On the one hand, I wonder why more of this stuff isn't seen in Europe, on the other, it's nice that there are hidden treasures still to be found.see here http://www.timezone.com/extras/200804223222

Of the G-shocks, I really like the Master of G range. Have a look at the Mudman, Gulfman and Riseman. I would love all of them. Plus a 25th Anniversary Dawn Black Frogman, but they are stupid money.
Keep looking for the Black Dawn, I managed to find oe for reasonable money a while back. Proper first Japanese model complete with "carbon" box and original recipts. Bargins are out there.I've also got a Mudman andit isa great bit of kit, just need a waveceptor now
The cheapest I've seen is about £230 at a UK online shop but I've not inquired as to if it has all the right boxes and stuff. All the ones on Ebay are "buy it now" and at £240 plus.
The older oes you see for under £100 are quite often fakes as G-Shock are one of the most faked watches out there on ebay.
Thing about the Black dawn you have to be carefull of is that there are actually 2 versions. The Japanese version in the Carbon crate, and a US version that is in a Normal G-Shock Tin. the Japanese Carbon Crate version is usually as you say between £200 & £240.
Getting one like I did, well nowdays you will have to be lucky (they are getting rare), but I have seen one for the same money since

Brand spanking new with all the original papers (it even had the display card thingy on the strap with the 25th Aniversary logo, model number etc) and I paid around £200 IIRC.

I've read that fakes are around. I reckon this one is a pretty shocking fake, sold for nearly £90 just a few days ago. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...The older oes you see for under £100 are quite often fakes as G-Shock are one of the most faked watches out there on ebay.

However, there are genuine 2nd hand ones on US Ebay for not much more if you don't mind ropey colour combos.

I've been watching that one since it was listed. Can't make my mind up about the colour though. Would it look dirty after wearing it a few times? Never seen one in the flesh. It does look genuine though. The only thing I can't understand about that auction is the 'buy it now price' is the same as the starting bid. Why would anyone bid on it and risk losing it, when they can guarantee to get it via by it now. Well being a Frogman it's very easy to wash if it gets dirty? I've chucked mine in a bowl of water to soak before now when I got it really dusty. I wore my Mudman paintballing and the next day I actually scrubbed it clean in a bowl of hot soapy water. Still looks brand new.
The clear plastic might change colour slightly over time, but this only add's the watch in my opinion.
Let's put it this way, if I was in the market right now I wouldn't have even posted the link here
That is an uber rare Frogman, and they really are the pinicle of the G-Shock range (which is why they are so sought after).

If anyone is interested, I purhased a new Seiko Sports 100 watch in 1984.
It has just ceased operating and has therefore provided nearly 25 years reliable and accurate service.
I had been contemplating the purchase of an Omega Seamaster but have been put off by owners reviews citing expensive servicing, inaccuracy, and the generally poor attitude of Omega UK.
I will be buying another Seiko shortly, probably a Velatura.

new Seiko "Phoenix" automatic chorono....costs about a grand, but what a looker!
This one is Titanium (bought for low weight and particularly it's hypoallergenic qualities, I have reacted to cheap Stainless before) and cost me £150, it's particularly nice to know the watch is made by a proper company and is not just another brand....even if it doesnt carry the weight of your Omega's .etc
Definately fancy adding a black (or possibly brown??) croc strap to it though after seeing that Phoenix, not a perminant swap but it would be nice to have the choice

Really like that.I already have an Arctura Kinetic, I think I may be adding to the collection... One of the things I liked about it was the way the strap integrates into the bezel although the strap does have a habit of pinching the hairs on your wrist.
I really like the new one a lot. Seeing the two together, mine looks properly out-of-date!
I bought it at Ernest Jones last year for £185.

Super! I love it when you find a watch you really like and it's not crazy-expensive. http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/498...
