Sea Dweller Deepsea
Discussion
Does anyone know when the Deepsea begins to hit UK shores? I've spoken to my local Rolex dealer and am on a waiting list (a long one it seems), so may be prepared to buy early at a (reasonable) premium.
So far I've not seen any physical watches for sale - so my sense is they've not yet landed here - but would appreciate others' views.
Thanks
Kind regards
Steve

Apart from the extra writing original gas escape valve and ring lock system.
might change my mind about that once I see one in the flesh
That's how I feel about it also, sometimes these etched? bits are much more obvious in photos. I'd love to see one in the flesh.might change my mind about that once I see one in the flesh
I like the Sea Dweller but find the case just slightly on the small side.

I thought that before I bought mine. I had never been that interested until I actually tried it on. It somehow feels a bit larger than the dimensions suggest. I actually think now that a 42mm case would be too big for it.I am curious as to how big the DeepSea will "wear". From the website, it looks huge.
We'll see.
Why waste dosh on a watch witch goes to 12,000 fsw, commercial offshore oil and gas divers work at around 600 fsw, deep dives offshore Brazil go to about 1000 fsw. And never will go much deeper either.
Its like buying a car that will do 600 mph, you aint, and can't to do it? Existing Sea Dwellers (75 vintage) was rated to a obscene 2000 fsw.
Apart from telling the time, and maybe date, what else does it do?
But I do like the selling bumff "The Rolex Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA is a new generation Rolex watch that responds to the most exacting demands of professional divers", does it really.
The majority of "Professional Divers" I know in the gas and oil industry have Casio watches. Yes they look cool, but be honest, would you want one? You may as well buy an astronaughts suits in case you go into space.

Come on now, there is a very high percentage of sat divers wear Sea Dwellers, I'd say close to 50% on the boats I've worked on.
See you're an LSS Vipers which vessel are you on? I'm on the Bibby Topaz.
You must have all the "Oldies on there", to be honest, I have sat in the mess room with the boys on some boats, and all have Rolex's, but I dont think the newbee's buy them. On other boats, see maybe one or two.See you're an LSS Vipers which vessel are you on? I'm on the Bibby Topaz.
Currently working at NHC in Aberdeen, past couple of years :-
Wellservicer (quite a few Rolex's there)
Discovery
Bibby Aqua Marine, (well past its sell by date, but still works)
Balmoral (Us and them on there)
and some.
But honest, what do you think of 12,500 fsw? I guess the guys go for the Sea Dweller for the Helium escape valve, and they wern't too expensive a few years ago. Luckly brought mine in 75 for £200. NEW.
BTW is the Topaz a new build?
Certainly is a new build, just out this year. It makes a nice change from the Aquamarine where I spent much of last year. She is away to Trinidad at the moment to spend her twilight years in the sun.
You're right about the depth ratings being way over the top on the deep sea, most systems are rated to a max of 300-350m and most jobs are never much over 100m. The one we're on now is only 24m!! Completely over the top, however I have to confess that I have got one on order and on top of that I'm not even a diver I'm an engineer so the deepest water it will ever see is the bottom of a swimming pool once every 3 years when I'm doing my survival.

Good for you, dont forget to get it insured for onshore and offshore use, in the unlikely event if loosing it or having it stolen. You're right about the depth ratings being way over the top on the deep sea, most systems are rated to a max of 300-350m and most jobs are never much over 100m. Glad to hear the Aqua Marine is out of the UK, when she's past it for Trinidad, probably go to Mexico for a year or two, then Bombay, and scrappie.
