The only one with a waiting list is the stainless steel. List for one of those is about £5,800. They sell at about £7k, second hand but unused.

Surely the daytona is now severely overpriced at £5800. It was only a couple of years ago that they were under 4k they then went 4420/5k/and now you say 5800. I do like them but i'm sorry but they just seem overpriced now. Especialy compared to my jlc chrono that i got for 4k from main dealer.

Good looking watch but must say I've always been disappointed by the ones I've handled. Light, flimsy and cheap feeling and very, very shiny,

Should do a good job of getting the waiting list down though!

I expect that Rolex will bring out a new Daytona version soon that will be bigger and have a date.

I agree, at £5800 its no longer really worth it. I paid £4k on the nose for mine in 2006 and it was only £3250 when I ordered it in 2000. banghead It'll always be worth the £4k I paid for it though smile

The thing is, Rolex hold their value. You don't want to know the bid I got on a PP perpertual.

Since they have been commanding in excess of £6k for as long as i can remember in the second hand/unused market, i fail to see how you came to that conclusion?

I came to that conlusion by comparing the daytona to other finer watches that can be had for the same price or less.

That is entirely subjective. Something is worth what people are willing to pay, and since this has been well over £6k for 10 years, you surely have to conclude that they are currently not "severely overpriced" ?

One of the reasons Rolex prices stay firm is that they don't do more Limited editions than 'normal' editions. And as stated, value is what people are prepared to pay. I'm looking at an early daytona with a porcelain dial. Now is that worth 4 times current RRP? AP is a classic case, they spent years building a rep, only to sell out big time.

it is interesting in another post jshell got his after waiting 4 months,

at 5800 there is no longer the profit to stay on a waiting list and then sell it on as soon as you get it, hence the lists will shrink to people who actually want the watch for themselves, i suspect rolex have actually been making about the number required, the premium being because of the pent up demand, rolex clearly decided people would pay 6k, so they wanted that money, which you can't blame them for

the problem is there are a lot of people who have one as a safe investment, knowing they can always get their cash back, but if that pent up demand has gone, then it's no longer the great investment and if people try and sell them, it'll hit it even more

when i first enquired it was 3800, at that price i'd buy one, at 5800 i'm not interested, i wonder how many other people who were part of the pent up demand feel the same

Hmm, things aren't what they seemed with mine though. Because it's a European dealer, the price is in Euros and with current exchange rates the price works out to be £6,110....yikes

Do want the watch, but I'm ending up paying well over the odds, if I take it. I have about 3 days to make up my mind.

An A serial zenith (with all the goodies) just sold on ebay for £5800. Much better deal (and look a lot better) compared to a new one.
