I've heard Rolex are going to up their list price in 2009 because the weakness of sterling makes the UK very cheap for foreign currency buyers.

Does anyone know if this is true and if so what sort of price we will see Submariners, Seadwellers and Explorers next year.

Why not ask your source of information, they don't normally increase prices when the exchange rate falls/rises in the opposite direction so i don't see why they should this time.

Scaremongering, i reckon

Pateks aren't for me, I'm a scumbag.

My 'source' is internet rumours so I can't ask them directly. I wondered if anyone really knew as I'm considering getting a non-date Sub as a present for a loved one. Obviously I'd do this before the new year if I was sure a price rise was going to happen.

I was in Farnham the other week, the AD there was saying there are price rises in the new year to a couple in the shop. I was looking at selling my 16610, but will hold on now till the rrp goes up in the new year, and I'm not keen on selling anyway, was only for financial reasons.

Last increase was 12.5% in October. Another due early NY 09. And yes, it's the exchange rate. Prices never go down however.

Amazing!

Are Rolex ADs still doing a lot of trade in these? Surely they're getting to be too expensive? A new GMT-Master for £4k?! Or an Omega Seamaster GMT and a Speedy Moon Watch?

These are getting to be so pricey they're making a night with Heather Mills look like a bargain.

Totally agree. I love my sub, but the new prices are getting to be an absolute piss take.

However, there is something rather nice about having bought a new Sub LV less than 3 months ago for £3,280 and in a month's time the RRP for the same watch will be in excess of £4,000. Nice residuals are guaranteed.

Had a recent insurance payout and received funds via signet payment card, thought I was going to struggle to get hold of Sub date with some Ernest Jones dealers quoting between 6 and 12 months wait. A plan was put into action with me calling about 12 or so further dealers giving my details with instructions to call me if a watch came into stock with customer not wishing to take re c/c. Found a watch within an hour but since have received a further 3 calls with dealers offering canceled orders!!!!!!!!!Can't be a good time to increase prices
There was a Sub date in Harrogate last week and this week saw a Sub date (green) in Meadow hall, havn't see Sub dates in shop windows for years!!

As sterling is shedding value quicker than than a skanky model drops her knickers for a premiership footballer I don't find it surprising that Rolex pricing is adjusted accordingly. You have to remember that certain Rolex watches act almost like a unit of exchange being saleable just abou anwhere in the world.
However I'd rather buy in the new year than just before Christmas thus why I asked the question

There's also a sub anniversary in Selfridges at the moment £3400 was the price quoted .. if anyone has any cash spare. Don't know that they'll accept an offer, though over the road in Watches of Switzerland there seemed to be some bartering going on.

Watches.co.uk has 4 available, I'd take a pre-owned one and a good saving myself... http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=7288S

How things have changed. I bought my LV sub for £2790 in 2006 and I see the list price is now about £3700ish. I significant rise will take it to over £4000 in this short time - ridiculous.

Harder to find models don't seem to be any more. I dealer in Poole recently had a new green sub, black sub and black (non limited) Milgauss in the window and a dealer in Canary Wharf had green and black subs too. Almost unheard of a year or so ago.

That dealer in Poole still has them in there window (or they did on sunday) there seems to be plenty of choice in dealers windows along the south coast at the moment.

hem- my 'loved one' is a close relative and I think he'd get a buzz out of it if it were cheaper!
