Yes, heard the same.

However, I am informed that price increase in ADs will take effect in April 09.

All due to the ever decreasing pound rolleyes

Not exactly the best timekeepers at their best. Get a patek and show some class wink
I'd prefer a Breguet (or a non-Compressor JLC). Patek cost a bloody fortune and simply don't look that interesting to me. They've got lovely movements but Patek usually hide them behind solid casebacks.

Rolex are looking more and more overpriced by the minute, considering how ubiquitous they are. They're tough, reliable tool watches (even though their timekeeping isn't superlative) but in my usual train carriage to London virtually 75% of the passengers have a Rolex of some sort. Perhaps some of them are reps (I know how good some replicas are and I can't tell the difference from someone else's wrist) but I haven't seen any egregious (poor-quality, obvious) fakes for quite a while. It seems that virtually *everyone* wears a Rolex of some description - yeah most of them are steel sports models or Day-Dates rather than the silly-money precious metal presidential bling-fests (my train isn't the gangsta train), but they're very much a mass-produced utility watch IMO.

Dom's price list has shown that Rolex are going too far IMO. Still, if people are persisting in paying full price in the current economic conditions, then you can't blame Rolex can you?

Beats me why people are paying full price for new Rolexes right now, though...

I found out my receipt and I got my sub date new with a small discount in 99 for £2100.

That's similar or less than what's its probably worth on ebay if I sold it today.

So I have had the pleasure of owning a all time classic watch for 10yrs and its not cost me a bean.

Its been worn everyday even during diy etc, hasn't missed a beat and is of such quality its unmarked.

IMHO don't knock Rolex they are the default aspirational watch brand, for good reason.

Some of the other pretentious brands being heralded as alternatives have little resale value, are of an inferior construction quality, have poor service networks and are overstocked to the point they aren't worth anything used.

Saying it hasnt cost you a bean is true (pound for pound) in one sense, however the pound has devalued somewhat since '99, so that's where your loss is.

So £2100 today has the same purchasing power as it did in 1999? Inflation has robbed you.

For sure it probably doesnt have the same purchasing power, but ignoring house prices which are coming back in to line its not radically different 10 years on - e.g. a 325i or 911 are the same price.

Show me what a a tag or omega that cost £2k new 10 years ago is worth now, let alone one thats a year old.

Why the non-Compressor JLC?

Just curious as I've taken a bit of a shine to a Master Compressor Geographic
