Or should i just get the new Grand Carrera Calibre 17 RS2 that i tryed on in Watches of Switzerland last week or wait for the Calbre 36 RS Caliper to come out then that could be years away...

Yeah!

I know very little about watches, and I certainly wouldn't buy from a fashion brand.

How much is the Louis Vuitton watch?

Sensible money?

Who makes them? I seriously doubt it's Louis Vuitton themselves, and I'll bet they use someone else's movements (nothing wrong with that, as long as they're good movements).

Suggest you state your budget and let the PH watch massive make some recommendations!

Wouldnt bother to be honest, watches made by fashion companies are not usually the best, its the same with shoes, Prada, Gucci shoes last about 6 months!

id go for a watch brand if it were my money, suppose it depends how much your spending though.

I'd cautiously suggest that a £2K Omega would be more satisfying to wear than a £2K LV a few years down the line, all other things being equal.

Louis Vuitton are part of LVMH (not surprisingly) which also owns Zenith (and Tag Heuer and Hublot), accordingly, some at least of their watches have Zenith movements.

Personally I'd have a Zenith.

I'm getting the impression i better stay away from LV watches. Just liked the look of some of them from the web site. I would say they can't be that bad a they offer a five year guarantee.
Arn't we all fashion victims though as a £10 watch will tell the time just as well as a £3000 Chopard but thats life. We have things we can afford and more so we want and like.
As from the many posts on here watches are a very personal thing each to there own!!

If you like it then you should buy it - its you that has to wear it.

Some of us (me included) were simply trying to suggest some alternatives. I think a challenge that LV has is that they aren't known as a watchmaker so they are rather seen as a ploy by LVMH to stretch the LV brand into a new market and perhaps sell to people who wouldn't be looking at their more established watch brands.

How about posting a link to the one you liked the look of?

I don't think you could fault the quality of the movements, but they're not made by LV - unlike those from Zenith etc. It's not really an issue, most of the well-respected watch houses buy movements or components in.

Your point about being a fashion victim depend on your motive for buying, I guess. If you're buying a watch because you want everyone to know you're doing well and you like watches then buy a Rolex or an Omega Seamaster - something easily recognisable. However, you're the one that's going to be looking at your watch twenty times a day so you should buy the one you like the most - irrespective of whether or not it's an LV, a Blancpain or a Casio!

Personally, I'd go for an IWC (budget permitting. Have you thought about a second-hand watch?

If was going to spend a couple grand on a watch, I'd want something decent!

Something with a bit of history and heritage.

At those prices (~$5k on their website), it would feel more like a really expensive fashion accessory.
