I seriously think Rolex's are the best pound for pound watches in existence

for not much cash, you simply can't beat the Sub Mariner or Sea Dweller

Despite having a Sub LV, which I love, I have to say that the Panarei PAM00251 which I bought on Christmas Eve feels an overall better quality watch and to me more special.

Except maybe for an IWC Aquatimer or a pair of Omega Seamasters...

I wanted you to explain why you think they are the best watches, what you think they do so much better than other companies? Omega, IWC etc as listed above?

You can't claim something is the best and not define what "best" is... well, you can but don't expect anyone to take you seriously on a forum such as this...

Perhaps on a Facebook watch forum you could say "Rolex is the best" and get replies like "Innit!", "Rolex iz da bomb" and "Rolex iz well wikid, blud"...

Having handled one, and own the other, I can say without much hesitation that the bracelet on the Rolex Submariner is a mere pretender compared to that on my Omega Seamaster.

Rolex make some great watches, this is beyond question. But are they the "best"? What is "best"?

A £60 G-Shock is more accurate and robust than anything Rolex (or Omega, or JLC, or Nardin, or anyone who makes mechanical or quartz watches) make, so in a couple of specific ways, it's better.

The bracelet on the Planet ocean, is a very sturdy piece of kit I would be interested to see if I could hang off it hehe

sorry but imho, utter tosh

with the third prices rise in just over a year coming next month, they are no longer even reasonable in their price, they're using the excuse of the low pound again, strangely when the pound is strong it doesn't go the other way.

they used to very innovative and brought lots of new developments to the watch industry, more recently they seem keener just churn out variations on a theme, apart from the new spring material i'm hard pushed to think of any new significant developments

they manipulated the daytona waiting list which has now collapsed, as have the deepsea and the milgauss, i mean for heavens sake the daytona still doesn;t have a date and you still need to unscrew the chronograph buttons

i can't think of any reason to go to hollow links on the sub and seadweller apart from to save money and allow the watch to age with use

10 years ago what you were saying was probably true, now i think omega are better value and better watches, at one point i had a sub, a sea dweller and my planet ocean, until i realized i was never wearing the rolexes and never taking the planet ocean off

i do hope they sort themselves out, but suspect they're far more interested in the arab/bling market and the profits that come with it then anything else

I bought my stainless steel datajust Rolex some 20 years ago for just under £1k. I have worn this every single day since then. It has been worn working on my car, on building sites, absolutely everywhere. This has been the cheapest watch I have ever owned! Why? It has cost me less than £60 per annum untill it had its first service two years ago. The service including new glass & re-polish was less than £250. Unfortunately the accuracy it had of minus 15 seconds a month is not as good since the service and within a month I had cracked the glass against a wall (once again) Something else that is great about it is that very few people actually recogise or know what it is!

i love my SD, but don't think it's *better* than, say, an IWC or panerai, or a number of other brands, not to mention the high end makers in the watch world biggrin

I love my SD, but the likes of Damasko, Stowa & even more so Sinn, deliver far better value for money.

BTW it's Submariner not Sub Mariner. Would have thought someone with such an obvious wealth of knowledge would have known that.

I guess this thread didn't go the way the OP planned.

Still, I'm also guessing that the OP is sitting in the corner rocking back and forth with his fingers in his ears singing "Not listening lalalala" wink
