I'm not bothered what you think of me....why would I care about you?
This is usually a great forum. This is the first watch thread with people insulting each other for ages. From my experience, people who just seem to want to wind up other posters disappear quite quickly.

OP is still a tool though.

These posts, for me, sum up why a Rolex is not the best watch in the world and why I'll probably never own one. Shame really as they are nice watches
Hmmm, yeh I must admit to sitting here (working ) with my Rolex on thinking 'Oh god, its guys like this which has given the brand its obnoxious image...'On the subject of best, its so subjective and personal. I recently flipped my PO because (hope this makes sense) I just 'didn't get it'. I appreciate the watch for what it is and love the technicalities of the Co-Axial movement but I couldn't relate to Omega as a brand (I do know their history too, I think it is the recent -Swatch- history which may leave me cold, not sure!).
I recently bought a black face Milgauss to replace the PO, and placing the two side by side I thought the Rolex was a better crafted watch (the interface of face to case; quality of face print; design and detailing of the face; back detailing...). I wear the Rolex and feel special wearing it (surely the reason why we all buy nice watches!), something I never did with the Omega.
I must say this is all my personal opinion, and not in anyway intended to insult owners of Omegas (great watches as they are), just how different brands / watches appeals to us on different levels.
Brands can almost transcend the actual aesthetics of a product too and this is readily notable in my choice of watches. My all time love is JLC even though a lot in their range are probably too dress orientated for me. Oh for a Duometre, Master Control RdM or even an Amvox!

There are really only two top horology tiers. Premier, led by Piaget, JLC, IWC etc. and the second tier represented by Omega, Rolex et al.
At the end of the day you pay your money and make your choice.
And just to be a really sad to55er:

As a Rolex wearer I can agree with the comment "Rolex isn't the best watch in the world" in the same way that I can agree that Rolls Royce was posibly the "best car in the world" rather like someone can perfectly logically state that a Skoda is the best car in the world (or a Toyota, Honda, Maybach or whatever) they are all "horses for courses" if we all agreed on the "best watch in the world" there would be no reason for any of the other makes to be available. And like Angolina Jodie is one mans dream girl (to others she may be a minger!)Freddie von Rost said:

I seriously think Rolex's are the best pound for pound watches in existence
for not much cash, you simply can't beat the Sub Mariner or Sea Dweller
Except maybe for an IWC Aquatimer or a pair of Omega Seamasters...for not much cash, you simply can't beat the Sub Mariner or Sea Dweller
Do you buy a car because it looks good? or has it good things like a big boot for all the shopping, or a big V8 coz you like the big engine.
Or even a TVR for the thrill of owning and driving one. So one of the other, you either buy it coz it looks good, or it has features you need.
Same with a watch really. Do you buy it to look cool, or because it has features you need. I brought my SD coz I was an offshore North Sea Diver in 76, (hardly been off my wrist since), and there was nothing around really which was rated to the depths we were diving in, except maybe an Omega, can't recall really. The only diving watch we all brought was a Rolex.
So bearing in mind a SD is really designed for diving activities, and after all, it only tells the time and numerical date of the month, why on earth buy it for other resons. Is there some big thing in walking around with an SD on your wrist, does it pull the birds? does it look cool? do they think maybe your a diver?.
I can understand a pilot or explorer buying a Brietling, not a kid of 18 in his Scoobydoo, maybe I am missing something here. At the end of the day, each to their own.
