IWC Auto 7 Day problem
Discussion
I bought myself a lovely IWC Port 7 Day Auto 5 months ago. It's been worn almost daily since then and has been faultless. I always take it off at night, it sits on the bedside table. The other morning I noticed even though it was showing full power reserve it had stopped. Given a gentle shake it came back to life but only for 15mins then stopped again. Now it just doesn't run.
I've returned it to the supplier who advised it's very strange for a watch of this quality to fail.
Question is, am I on my own here or is it reasonable to expect a £6k watch to last a few months?
It's never left near anything magnetic and isn't worn when doing anything active where it might get a knock.
As you can imagine I'm not very impressed.......

I can't really add anything other than a bit of sympathy to hear that. Definately something which needs to be done by them. There's a 2 year warranty as standard is there not?I've returned it to the supplier who advised it's very strange for a watch of this quality to fail.

Will be replaced or reapired under warranty, assuming you bought it from a kosher source.
Kosher source is my only worry, they were not an authorised dealer. But have agreed it is thier problem and will rectify the situation. I'm assuming they are kosher as they only deal in new & used high end watches. In the current climate though, I'm a little concerned.

IWC warranty might be stuffed then if the manual isn't stamped by an AD.
Just hope the dealer knows what he's doing fixing it.

Are you sure, the dealer did intimate it was still under IWC warranty. Although when I asked where it would be sent for repair I didn't really get an answer.
It will only be under official warranty if the documentation has been stamped and dated by an IWC AD.What does your paperwork say?
This movement has apparently proven to be problematic in the past with symptoms similar to yours being reported. However, these have mostly been in the Big Pilot which has the same movement.
FWIW, my Portuguese has been flawless and keeps better time than any of my other watches.
Hope you get the problem sorted to your satisfaction.
Thanks for the replies guys, it seems my oringinal fears regarding warranty may have become a reality
The warranty card has the serial number etc on but no dealer stamp. This is why I returned it to the supplier. I also queried why the card had not been dated and stamped, they agreed to sort that too.
I'm beginning to feel like I bought an MC without a running in service!! Seemed like a good idea at the time. Fingers crossed it will get sorted.
Seb d - hope you get one soon, I'm missing it already. Currently slumming it with my 3717

Done up like a kipper.Sorry mate.
Unless the book is stamped by an AD you're in the hands of the [liar] dealer who sold it.
I hope you get it sorted.
For what it's worth I have had good results on non warranty repairs from the Swiss Watch Compant is Chiswick, West London - www.watches.co.uk - ask for Tim or Dee.
If the seller doesn't sort it, or you don't trust him, then they are your best bet.
Damn, I feel your pain. Sorry mate.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your IWC. I'm also sorry to say that I'm not surprised. I'm currently waiting for my fifth attempt at an IWC. I like the brand and the watches but their quality control is crap. Let me assure you it is not very strange for a watch of this quality to fail!I've returned it to the supplier who advised it's very strange for a watch of this quality to fail.
