is your best man a petrolhead?

If so might want to consider something by Porsche Design.

I don't know is they are still available but I have a pen and pencil made by Faber to a PD design.

The shaft of both the pen and pencil is made from the braided stainless steel brake hose used on Porsche race cars.

Only ever heard of one person who had one, (and he had managed to lose it) and it is a bit of a (sad) talking point.

I have worked alongside people with more money than they know what to do with and fancy Mont Blanc's etc and whilst people rarely comment on MB's I have had numerous appreciative comments on mine.

Found a link here www.penbox.co.uk/porsche.pens.htm

Good thinking smile I use both the fountain pen and ball pen in this design. They are different from the MB's that lots of folk have.

I like the MontBlanc Grandmeister Flash or whatever its called but neither are really dazzling me yet?

anything in carbon fibre anywhere?

it has to be a fountain pen - -no offence but a ball point just isn't "it"

You can get a Fountain pen - and it doesn't scream porsche cars in the same way that PD coffee machines and kettles etc don't. It isn't one of these pens that has the manufacturers crest tacked on to the lid.

Anyway, if not for you - what about Dunhill?

Again, has motoring connections but no hint of marque links. Something from the sidecar range would be my choice.

They also do a model called Sentryman in carbon fibre

I haven't got a pen, but on the basis of cufflinks, ties, wallets that I have would expect the quality to be superb.

Buy direct from the Dunhill store on line or even better take a trip to London and go to Alfred's house.

For my money, whilst MB do some lovely gear and I am sure it is top quality, it is a bit obvious and safe - writing instrument equivalent of Rolex (well we are on the watch forum)

I have a Mont Blanc 75th Anniversay Special editon fountain pen as well as a 75th Anniversay roller ball pen. Both came in nice'ish presenation boxs too.

I have never had any issues with them.

People are right about loads of people having Mont Blancs, but if you know about pens and get one that is limited or has a bit of a story, thats make it a bit special, well it did for me when I told the then Mrs GMan what pen's I wanted as gifts from her for Christmas.

Current Mrs Gman bought me a Cross Apogee Executive in platinum which I use daily as I find it matches my platinum wedding band and my Rolex Sub. I find the gold on my Mont Blancs clash!

Sorry I'm a complete sad bd when it comes to things like this!!!!!

Check out the range at TheWritingDesk (no afiliation but they provide a lot of help and great service)
I like the double geekiness smile

Haven't got a camera to hand, but currently sporting a black Seamaster together with a black/gold Caran d'Ache Leman for scribbling of notes.

Hmmm, pen geeks eh? Well, in that case you might be able to help me out. I've had a Fisher Space Pen for years and although it's a horrid, scratchy thing to write with, it fits perfectly into my wallet. My question is - does anyone know of a fountain pen with the same dimensions as my Space Pen, as I really would like to swap it, but enjoy knowing that it's always there when I need it.
Cheers.

One of the resellers had one for sale a week or so ago if you want details. (not affiliated but asked him about stock for a mate).

I guess this pic is ok to post in here as it ticks both boxes.

Good luck with your search.

The best pen I have (and I have about 10!!) is a Conway Stewart Churchill (with medium italic nib). Brilliant pens. For something else - Sailor King of Pen. Both are available from the Writing Desk who are quite brilliant (no affiliation with them other than several purchases - all carried out quickly, helpfully and efficiently). I also have a Parker Duofold (V nice) and a Cross. I also have 3 other Conway Stewarts.

Go for either a Conway Stewart of a Sailor.

My experience of Mont Blancs is dreadful. If they aren't leaking they don't work!! Tried 3 (bought one and ended up with 2 replacements before the shop eventually gave me my money back saying it wasn't unheard of!!) Wouldn't go near one again, but maybe I was very, very unlucky.

Either way, the Conway Stewarts and the Sailor are (IMVHO) far better pens.
