Been asked to make a decision for someone, as they cant... it has to have a leather strap and be suitable for under a suit as well as with jeans and shirt/polo i.e. it needs to be a daily watch, and an only watch.

I've said put the money into a pre-owned Rolex such as;

I quite like this also...

However, I have a feeling the watch has to be something that non-watch enthusiasts will know is expensive which rules out the above.

Any ideas appreciated, I think he wants to order tomorrow.

Breitbling, then. hehe

Personally, I'd go for the IWC because when I am in a sensible mood I have impeccable taste.

Why does this person want to portray wealth through his watch above all other things?

Guess a Brietling would be the best for that.

I don't know the ins and outs - all I know is that when I recommended a few lesser known makes he wasn't keen at all.

I'd go for the PO all day long - but I am reluctant to recommend that as I have one!!

I've got a Tag Heuer Carrera (standard job, not the chronograph version) on a steel bracelet that I wear all day every day, regardless of what I'm doing. It's nice and discreet, but people who know watches appreciate it.

Not crashingly expensive either.

I'd opt for, and will mostly like do so next week, the PO smile Failing that you can't go wrong with the Carrera, although it does sit quite high off the wrist!

The Breitling shouts, the IWC whispers. The thinking man's choice.

non-watch enthusiast(NWE)? not quite sure if what that is, but if you're talking about a person that doesn't know about watches, does it really matter what they think? They probably only know Rolex and TAG. IMHO the IWC is the best in your bunch - class. NWE be damned!

Rolex, then? Or will the audience in question believe it to be fake? If so, knock it down to the Breitling.

I entirely agree - it's common knowledge he is doing well for himself, but he likes people to know he is doing well for himself. I am tempted to press the IWC issue, although that would make me jealous. I think I may just have him buy the Breitling. I would then not be too bothered.

Tell him to get his cash out then, nothing shouts I am doing well like a Daytona or something of that nature..

Nah. If he wants to "flash the cash" and show he is a man of no taste but a show-off then why not a U-boat? I find those offensive and truly in-your-face. Money without class. Seems from what I read to suit him. For me there are watches that have class, such as the IWC Aquatimer Heritage, the Breitling Heritage and the IWC Spitfire, be it chrono or plain. (I'm not going into real quality makes such as Blancpain or JLC her becaue he doesn't merit). Now if you really wants to flash the cash spend a fortune (of his money) on a white gold Daytona. You can enjoy spending it for him and then enjoy the comments after! And when he gets mugged............ over to you!

The 3717 without a doubt. evcen though people will not have heard of IWC the quality of the watch stands out and none watch fans would probably comment on it

The Rolex is another good option and looks very nice.

None of teh first choices do anything for me

I always buy watches that appeal to me. Couldn't give a flying fk about anyone elses opinion.biggrin

If he is looking at £3.5k Tag Heuer's, why not add Panerai to the list?

That's how well he is doing. He gets his butler to shop for him.

He wants to send his butler to the Breguet shop, then, if a subtle but unequivocal display of wealth and taste is required.
