Hot on the heels of the Rolex SDDS, Omega have 're-issued' their mahoosive 'PloProf' divers watch with locking bezel and 1200m depth rating.

What do you guys think?

It is a little unsubtle, granted, but I'd be interested in finding out more. Where did you find the picture?

Anyone know more about the original PloProf?

Looks like someone has been busy with photoshop, that's what it looks like......

Actually I take that back, it's on the Omega website. Looks like a computer rendering but also it IS kosher.

Will this devalue the originals a little I wonder?

It's pretty ugly but as every manufacturer seems to be raiding their archive and producing updated versions (and Omega has a permanent line in this) then I suppose we shouldn't be surprised....well maybe a little.

No-one even dives to a 1/5th of 1200m, but it's a marvelous bit of technology! Same with the Rolex SD DS, fantastic enginering, it completely OTT!

There's more info at: http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=239&t...

Brilliant. biggrin

I always thought the PloProfs (what does it mean??) look awful. Collectable, apparently, but awful.

Only four?! You'll be getting the benders if you're not careful, especially if there were scented candles involved...

According to the sales blurb "PloProfs" means "professional divers" and I guess the watch is not particularly pretty due to being capable of withstanding the pressures of 1200 metres below...

How come that is so chunky for a 4000ft limit, when this one isn't for three times the depth (allegedly)....?

'ploprof' is shortened version of 'plongeur professional' which is french for professional diver. (Maybe French due to diving in the 60's/70's being dominated by Cousteau/COMEX etc)
It's an interesting watch and probably due to its unusualness and rarity is a bit of a collectors piece - like that lobster tuning fork speedmaster or, further up the scale, the Urwerk watches. Personally I like it but not enough to want to wear it...

If you want to go deeper (like the bottom of the pool as opposed to bottom of the bath) then a Sinn UX is slimmer and goes down as far as you like. A U2 is another choice that'll go to 2,000m. Just don't forget your snorkel.

The DeepSea is a proper fat b'stard of a watch, especially compared to the sub:

It's a big b'stard, too:

Saw my First SDDS in flesh last week as a fan of large watches I was gobsmacked at it. just looked and felt really odd. too much. much prefer the last sea dweller.

You would have to be teh size of The Rock for it not to look out of place

Blimey, I never realised. Not seen one in the flesh or in comparison before.
