Not for me, but my father-in-law is looking to upgrade to the solid gold datejust thingy. Question is are there any deals to be done on these? I can't believe you'd have to pay list price on something like this so looking for any recommendations for jewellers who will do a deal. We had a look today and the watch in question is about £15.7k with a ~£3k trade-in making it about £12400 to change. it's the mid-size one he's looking at.

Could he live with a used one? New Rolexes seem to have increased in price significantly recently.

The gold Oysters are really starting to grow on me. There's a real old school cool about them and they have moved on to becoming an unusual choice.

Agreed. I think that the old 18ct day dates will make a comeback.

A dealer told me that his "rule of thumb" was that the second hand price of a steel Rolex (except the most desirable sports ones) should be about 60% of current rrp.

However that seems to drop to about 30-40% for yellow gold.confused

A number of dealers have told me that solid 18kt Rolexes depreciate far quicker than their SS countrparts. Why, I'm still not exactly sure, perhaps as they are for the 'older' gentleman.

However, rumour is of an 8% increase in Rolex prices coming on the 1st May, if you're gonna buy one, do it now.............

Which model are you after, and which model are you part-exchanging?
PM me if you like....

Thanks all. I don't think he'll go for a second-hand one but I'll point him at Blowers.

Dom it's a 4 year old Oyster perpetual in half-gold. It's immaculate and has all the bits.

I don't really know how to describe it beyond that, will there be a model number on it or in the papers somewhere? I'm seeing him tonight so can get more details then and will PM you thereafter.

Yes,you'll find the model number on the outside of the COSC warranty papers. It's either a 5 figure number such as 16233 or if it's a slightly later model it would have 6 figures such as 116233.

You have mail...
