Is the Milgauss a limited edition watch
Discussion
As per the title really. I don't know much about watches and wanted to find out for a friend of mine. I know the watch only came out recently after production was ceased for a while. (I might be wrong). What I wanted to know, is the watch a limited edition and furthermore are some colours more sought after than others and if so why. Is this watch more collectable than other modern rolexes?
Apologies if this is a basic question to ask.
Thanks in advance.

Is the Rolex Milgauss a limited edition? No, Rolex do not make limited editions.Apologies if this is a basic question to ask.

The current 116400/GV series were launched at Basel in 2007, with either a black or white dial (116400) or a black dial with a green glass (116400GV). Initially, there was a large premium on the GV due to production problems of the green glass.
Thank you for very informative post.
I'm guessing that in the future all versions of the watch will be worth similar amounts then? Even though the green version seems to command a considerable preminium at the moment. I've never seen a milgauss in the flesh though I see every other rolex on a regular basis so was wondering if there was a reason for this. Hence why I wrongly assumed it was a limited edition watch.

You'll probably be able to find a black or white 116400 at most AD's, the GV's being delivered are probably to fullfil existing orders, so wouldn't make it to the window. The premiums for the GV (at one stage selling at +£7500) have dropped off to just over list. Of the three, I prefer the look of the regular black....

And in my ignorance...
What exactly is a Milgauss and what does it do/have except a wiggly (sorry for that description!)second hand?
Thanks.

I'd agree that Rolex do not make Limited Editions; however, I believe they do make Special Editions, of which the 116400GV is one. It is important to understand the difference because to many, the concept is the same - will I be able to buy one when I want one. With respect to an SE watch, the answer is potentially not.The current 116400/GV series were launched at Basel in 2007, with either a black or white dial (116400) or a black dial with a green glass (116400GV). Limited would denote a set quantity from the outset and the company are reluctant to cap an item in demand; however, Special Edition is used to describe an item with a limited product life span - in other words, unlike the eternal models, which may receive a facelift but continue on under the same name and almost identical style, the 116400GV will be retired in the short term.

I'm not aware of any plan to delete the 116400GV from the Rolex model list. I bet the watch is still on the 2014 model range. I could certainly be wrong, as I am not party to any notice of model range change from Rolex SA.

Dominic, you could very well be correct and I take your point on the Green Sub (a valid one as I was told the same SE rumour regarding it at launch). I was informed by someone I trust that the Black/Green GV was SE; however, As you say, time will tell.
