Anyone have a recommendation for the best UK retailers to go and have a look at a few Planet Oceans?

I'm quite tempted by this one? http://tinyurl.com/merncw

Anyone know what the current price for this is and whether these are a current stock item or have to be ordered?

Thanks

Current list price is £2150.

I bought mine at a local jeweller (supporting local business etc etc) and got 15% discount, although this was over 6 months ago so list was £2K then.

I'd be surprised if you had to get it ordered, unless you wanted the orange leather strap, which I imagine is not a common choice. Mine was in stock (steel bracelet, orange bezel) but at the other branch. I'd expect the black bezel on steel to be right there.

Definitely try on both sizes. The 45.5mm, if you can carry it off, is a magnificent chunk of watchology.

Thanks very much for the all the info, appreciate it

My wrist is quite slim so I think the 42mm would be best although I will try the all the sizes. Am I right in thinking this PO comes in 2 sizes, the 45.5 and the 42 only?

Also with the discount did you have to haggle much (any advice on haggling, never really done it before), and would you say Goldsmiths, Beaverbrooks etc. will accept haggling?

Also how are you finding the Orange? I was tempted but I thought it would be a bit too "loud" I'd like to wear it during the day with the suit and evenings too, in fact I'd pretty much decided on the black/silver combo as it would be ideal as a 24/7 watch.

I went to Cribbs Causeway in Bristol to look at a few and most of the quality jewellers had them in stock and in the window... I tried some on in Goldsmiths purely because it was empty and I got served straight away. As regards haggling - well I told them that it was going to be a present to me from my wife and that I wouldn't be buying it myself, and it wouldn't be for a LONG time, but they still offered me a £150 discount there and then without me asking, but in the next breath told me to be quick as they were in short supply (yeah right). So that says to me that they are definitely open to a bit of a haggle - the worst that can happen is they say no and you just go elsewhere. There seems to be a lot of competition to sell you this sort of thing, so definitely a buyers market.

I have slim wrists too and tried on both - I think you could get used to the 45mm one, but the 42 is still a big, lovely thing. I must say I was sorely tempted to pull out the debit card there and then - but the OH would have my guts for garters if I bought it for myself... darn it!

I was in a similar position last month, i was after a 45.5mm Orange bezel PO

I tried Goldsmiths, Laings, Watches of Switzerland and a few other stores, the best price i could manage was £1850.

Watchfinder.co.uk could do it for around £1780, but i wasn't sure if the watch would be UK sourced or from the USA and didn't feel i would have the same peace of mind as buying through an AD.

In the end i contacted Dominic H through Pistonheads.

He sourced me the exact watch i was after through an Omega AD for a great price. Drop him a PM, im sure he could sort you out.

Here's mine

Mine's like that ^^

And it's a lovely thing. The orange really isn't as loud in real life; the black dial and steel bracelet mute it substantially.

Oddly, the bits of mine that leap out at you (which you can't really see on photos) is the fluorescent orange tip of the second hand, and, in daylight, the preternaturally bright lume (which, I suppose, is also slightly fluorescent, if you think about it).

It looks wonderful in bright light.

One more vote for Dominic - he helped me source a watch my wife was looking for and I'd recommend him highly.

Another vote for Mr H, he is arranging a new dial for my Dads rolex 1601 date just, complete rebuild and a new strap.

Just need to wait until the right colour dial pops up.

I have this watch and I'm really pleased with it, bar two things.......

a) I purchased my first one in may last year, and it went back to Omega after two months - apparently it was made on a friday afternoon - It was replaced with a new one!!

b) Nothing wrong with the new one, bar I have marked the orange bezel in two places - Approx 250 to replace!

Would I have another - Most definately - I find them so much more classy and individual than TAG and Rolex - Just my opinion mind

I went to Ernest Jones in the Trafford Centre when I bought my Speedmaster, delt with a chap called Alex who was a great bloke and did me a fantastic deal and was as enthusiastic about the watch as I was, highly recommended , they even ordered me a new piece from Omega rather than the stocked item that had been handled, great price as well. 10/10 service and a great

Did you get one in the end, and how much did you pay for it? An orange bezel and silver strap combo is top of my shopping list.

I have pretty thin wrists so am unsure whether the 45mm would look way too big. Does the smaller watch look like a small watch? I currently wear a Tag Monaco and that fits me perfectly.

My Speedy is 42 mm same as the regular size P.O. and my wrist is slim, it fits perfectly so I am going to try a 42 P.O. tomorrow, problem is if I try it I will buy it !

I have to say that Omega's customer service is outstanding, they have treated me so well, they have sent me some fantastic books as a reply to some questions etc, very refreshing these days to have people who really take the time to make sure you are happy.

Tried both sizes of PO on last week, the large seemed too big but the small one seemed, well, too small.

Surprised at the quality though over a regular seamaster or a sub!

I have a rolex sub and a older seamaster (late 90's),and the seamaster definitely got the better quality, especially the bracelet which makes omega better to wear.

This little fella also loved my new 'toy' - obviously has good taste...???
This combo has attracted more comments (mainly polite !) than all my other toys.....
45.5mm - (feel it wears smaller) summer strap - for winter back to steel !
enjoy, Peter

I just bought the 45.5mm version of this watch today (black dial with silver/orange detailing, orange bezel, steel bracelet). Paid £1,800 from a reputable internet dealer (who sold me my Breitling Emergency a couple of years back).

Would post pictures when it arrives, but it'll look exactly the same as all the others!

What did you think of your Emergency? Have you still got it?

Yes I still have it. It's a decent watch although the novelty of the visual effect wore off pretty quickly. It's a very tough product and it feels almost too substantial, whilst the yellow face seems to provoke calls of "fake" from people who see it...they simply can't believe that Breitling would produce a serious watch, at a serious price, and then give it a bright yellow face.

If I am being completely honest I purchased the watch as I had wanted one for years - I didn't really think about the practicalities.

If you want subtle then it's not the way to go. I distinctly remember one occasion when I was watching Top Gear with friends. On this particular episode, Clarkson had commented that Audi drivers were "cocks" and that they all wore "that watch with the button" (or something to that end, referring of course to the Emergency). Everyone in the room turned and looked at me...wearing my Emergency and with my newly acquired Audi RS6 parked outside. I felt a little bit of a 'cock' for a minute or two. The feeling soon subsided.
