Stupid question time:
1/ how does it work out the tide?
2/ is it proper moonphase?
3/ why only 200m?
Quick answer...

1/ fk knows
2/ Apparently yes it is
3/All Frogman models have been "only" 200m, but I guess as they are not full on professional dive computers, more just watches for divers, I guess 200m is pretty deep
Fair point. Just see some analogue divers boasting 2000m. I wonder if they'll bring out a G capable of 3000m just to stick two fingers up at them. biggrin

Evening gents

I stumbled across this thread yesterday and I now need a G-Shock, but I wondered whether there are any with slightly smaller faces, preferably round too. If they're not too pricey then even better!

TIA
Look at the cockpit diver ones. Or those like the GW-810BXD.

It's just turned up and for me it's the best looking G I've ever owned and I've owned a few of them.

Brilliant!
Great stuff. Got any photos?
Sorry for the slow reply, I'm still on holiday in the US. However, I wanted to show you the pics because of you I've got a watch I really like.

Oh and sorry for the rubbish pics, I've not had a chance to get any decent ones as the other half is busy with the camera!

I had one of the cheaper Casio tide watches - you have to input your longitude (so the watch knows when moon up is) and then when the next high tide is, from known values. So, you have to reset it if you change locations in the world, using a tide table. If you have a tide table, why bother with the watch? A bit of a gimmick really.

In terms of divers watches, they'd have to go a long way to beat the Analogue Sinn UX - movement is waterproof to 5,000m and the case is pressure tested to 12,000m (the deepest point on earth is just shy of 11,000m!)!

Indeed - here is the UX GSG9 (German equivalent of SAS) version - nice, subtle, no-nonsense watch. The movement is submerged in oil to withstand pressure, and has the advantage of making the face viewable from most angles. It is a quartz movement, as they haven't found a way to make a mechanical movement strong enough to survive. IIRC it costs about a grand, so very good value for such a durable watch:

That depth is all very well, but how deep can a normal sport diver in a wet suit with an aqualung on his back dive to? I believe it's around 130ft is it not? It's these people the Frog is aimed at.

Frogman doesn't look so "out of it's depth" when you think about that biggrin

Ps. Ordinary Chap, I've got a 6900MS too... lovely watch isn't it? I gotta say it's one of my fav G's

Problem with that Sinn is, I'm not going to be slinging that at a brick wall if I owned it...

Aside form it's ability to function at ridiculous depths, could that Sinn really withstand the same level of abuse a G-Shock could?

I'd be tempted to say no, but no doubt someone will be along with before & after photos of a Sinn V's a steam roller hehe

Indeed. As posted on the other thread, I wouldn't want to hammer test a Sinn, even if they are better than your typical £1k watch.

Main problem with the oil filled Sinns is they tend to develop air bubbles in them.

The other problem with them is the double AR coating which is scratched to buggery on my U1. Also my U1 keeps terrible time despite going back to Sinn frown

Just had one of these come through the post today and I love it.

Having come across this thread, I have ordered one of these. I have always liked this design when it first came out in the 80's but was too young to afford one, pocket money didn't stretch that far!! Not in the same league as my automatics, but these Casios were what first got me interested in watches.

I'll be completely honest here chaps, I opened this thread a week ago to see what the fuss was about.

I always thought G Shocks were a tad overpriced and was never too keen on writing straps.

Anyway after a few pages I went for a Google.

INCOMING !

Anyone got one ? You can customise the menu apparently, that sold it for me.

I wanted to go Atomic, but I'm in Oslo and not convinced it'll work 100% up here.

The German radio station is located outside Frankfurt and has a usable range of 2000km Oslo looks to be only about 1000km away. I expect you could also get the UK one from Carlisle.

Grrr, too late now. My parents were struggling to find a birthday gift for it so I asked them to bring one over on their November visit to avoid any potential post office taxation.

My mother is now bricking it and asked if she should wear it when she comes through customs at the airport.

This is the same mother who was convinced any text messages she sent were translated into Norwegian before I read them.
