I was best man at a wedding in Cyprus last weekend and the groom, who knows me well, got me a GA-100ST. Not a watch I would have bought myself, but it was perfect for wearing on holiday last week. The black/gray/bright blue colour way seems to fit with most of my clothes and is a perfect match for one of my bikes.

Here's a photo of it whist swimming underwater - it isn't the greatest photo, but I thought it was a more suitable location for a G-Shck photograph.

As much as I love G Shocks, does anyone else find themselves not wearing them in favour of more traditional watches? My GA400 is always worn for spanner time and swimming etc but the GX56 hardly ever comes out now. I spend most of my time in long sleeve shirts and polo shirts now and it just doesn't feel right in those circumstances.
My GW-M5610BC still gets a lot of wear, as it is smarter that most G-Shocks and fairly small. I'l always wear it when I am going away, as it fits so many roles. I imagine the new one will be like my dress watch, it will get worn a few times a year, when it goes with the rest of what I'm wearing.

That's what happened to me.

I had a nice little collection of G Shocks, a few rare ones as well which I bought on trips to the US such as 'Krink' and '30 Stars' models and a others. Ended up with about 10 watches.

I don't know what happened, I suspect it was age (35), but I suddenly I felt silly wearing giant plastic watches. Like you I now seemed to be happiest when wearing shirts, polos and a smart pair of shoes.

I sold all my Casios and ended up buying a ceramic black Rolex Submariner, and I absolutely love it. It seems to perfectly suit everything I wear these days, and is very 'Me'.

I do keep looking at G Shocks often as I still like them, but they simply don't suit me or my clothes anymore.

I’ve been steadily building my G-Shock collection over the last few years. I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoy collecting them (and a few of their assorted friends).

I’m on holiday this week and decided to stay at home and have a wee spend up instead of incurring typical holibobs costs. Got a bit silly though and dipped into the used market for a much wanted trio: Gravity Defier, Rangeman and Frogman. The wife has refused to speak to me for pretty much the entire holiday since!😬😂

Having worn a cheap retirement Casio for the last few years, it has finally started to wear out (occasionally the LCD will go blank until tapped) I am thinking about getting a g-shock as my new daily watch. I like the look of the tough solar watches, so I don't have to faff with battery replacement.

Current beat up watch:

I like the look of the GW-7900-1ER as it has radio controlled time keeping as well.

What's the typical battery life seen with the tough solar? (Before the battery degrades and won't hold charge)

Any other comments for a first time g shock buyer?

You're over thinking it, just buy one and start thinking of things to do to destroy it.

There's a badge available from CASIO UK if you break one (in reasonable use, not under a lorry wheel)

I lost mine out in the woods last year and 2 weeks later it was where I thought it was in a dirty puddle covered in cow ssheet. Runs fine.

MAN1:"I'm worried about the battery in my Patek"
MAN2 "I wore my Gshock in the ambulance to casualty"

And now I'm reconsidering again... that GA-100ST is awesome!!

This was my thinking, but I don't have the budget for a Rolex. Looking at something like a Hamilton or maybe a vintage Omega...

If anyone does want a GX56, pm me wink

Nope, all my watches have their place and get worn depending on situation and what I'm wearing etc.

I don't have any one "uniform" of clothing either.

Not wanting to start a new thread, how long do the solar powered jobbies take to get a full charge and keep for normal wear? Followed the destructions and within an hour it will go from full to medium. The normal radio controlled solar powered casio I have will stay full on a normal days use for ever.

On the windowsill at the moment seeing if a day in the sun will help.

GAW100B btw.

I like to think, but don't know, that they charge up quicker in real sunlight not behind glass. ie leave in the garden for a day pointing at the sun. Mine last for ages stuck in a drawer when I don't wear them. Months.

Yeah, just given it three days following the sun around (where the sun is available). See how it fares now.

My other has been in a drawer for a few weeks, forgot about it. Remind me to charge that one up.

My 9 year old son has started raiding my watch boxes everyday to get a watch to wear to school.

His favourite is my Luis Vito Ltd Edition and my GX-56 which looks absolutely massive on his little wrists (it’s huge on mine).

My little lad loves borrowing my watches too, although he's only 18 months, so only allowed to wear the G-Shocks, which look rediculous on him. He only knows one number, so if you ask him the time it is always 2:00!

rofl

When my youngest was about 3 he came up to me and said

"Dad, is 168,000 the biggest number in the world?"
So I said "no, there's 168,001."
And he replied "oooo, I was so close."
