Well, I'm a bit annoyed. I purchased what I thought was the perfect Casio G-Shock square:

A lovely thing - bluetooth, Band 6, bracelet, all the toys.

The thing is - I just can't read it. The negative display just doesn't work for my old eyes. So no worries, thought I - I"ll get one with a positive display.

But Casio just don't seem do one with this spec, with a positive display and a bracelet! They do about 10 variations, but none with the the items I want, closesist is this:

But this is the much more expensive version, and only positive comes with a resin strap, not a bracelet. All the bracelet versions are negative. Grrrr!

The only close one is this gold one, which is the sister to the one I have:

But the gold is minging - and the display is goldy green which I'm not to keen on. Any suggestions?

Buy the expensive positive-display one and swap the bracelet/strap with the first one.

But how long have you had the -ve display? Had a similar “I can’t read this POS” feeling when I bought mine but I got used to it and absolutely love the thing now. Today is its turn for some wrist-time as it happens:

Thanks - good idea about swapping the straps, but the more expensive version has a screw back, and the lugs are different with screw in straps. So can't be swapped.

In the end, I got the gold version and swapped the guts over.

A bit of a Frankenwatch - but it'll do.

Nicely done! ’d rather wear a slightly fiddled-with frankenwatch than £10k worth of anyone-could-have-bought-this. Bit like cars, really.

Thanks BS62 - agreed, and as I was searching around the internet for a solution, I discovered the whole 'Casio Square Modding' scene.

Wow! I had no idea - but it has set me thinking.....

Funnily enough, the negative display in the gold case kinda works as well.

This is with the light shining directly on the display - which is how Casio photo these so you think they have more contrast then they actually do...

Love the -ve on gold....much less garish than the original gold/gold!

That’s a thing?! The seiko skx modding thing was a deep enough rabbit hole..going down another one could get me divorced. La la la I’m not listening.... </goes off to google>

...I’m going to be in so much trouble...

And just so it's clear how different the displays are in real life and what prompted me down the route of finding a positive display:

Yes - a poor picture, but even though the negative is closer and more direct on, the positive is still much easier to read in this real world dark area.

I got a g shock 5081 for my birthday, hate the bloody thing, very difficult to read the display.
