two poorly recieved jokes, so I apologised to Eddie that my sense of humour was so opaque, apologised to any who may not have got the joke in the thread, made a stab at explaining why the joke was funny (surely the strangest of excercises!) and took my leave.
Did you do the one about "screwing like a Chinaman", too? I don't think it was funny even in the original film it appeared in. Not offensive (being a "Chinaman") but not funny. More like a daft statement of fact; I suppose there is humour in that but I think the fact that I am analysing it proves a point here. biggrin
Not heard that one; nah, just one bad joke from me, or at least one joke that wasnt recieved well. Since all of my jokes tend to be rubbish biggrin. The "two poorly recieved jokes" referred to the fact that I'd been warned after one that I'd be out if I did it again. Which would be two bad jokes. I just can't trust myself to never tell a rubbish joke again (talk about pressure to perform!) , so said my goodbyes. But generally speaking, I rarely find race or sex jokes that funny.

No forum is perfect & if people are going to start crying about occasionally getting a bit of stick, they should forget forums altogether.

I frequent several watch forums & TZ-UK is the one I like the most. It's VERY LIGHTLY regulated / moderated, full of knowlegeable people and trustworthy buyers & sellers.
People who just visit to buy or sell don't go down too well, but otherwise you should be fine.
I agree 100%.

I have found it to be an almost unique place of civility and courtesy on the web in general.

Sometimes (in fact most of the time these days) I get tired of the relentless pointless arguing and sniping of many forums. The term "keyboard warrior" has never been more apt. I spend much of my time over at TZ these days because I simply can't be bothered to engage in the same circular arguments with the same posters whose general modus operandi is to go from zero to outright stupidity/offensiveness in a single post.

Yes, it could be said that some TZ members are a little overly deferential to the site owner - but so what? He owns the site, pays the bills and provides a great forum. A little more politeness and gratitude across the web would make it a much nicer place. Thanking Eddie for the means to sell a multi-thousand pound watch with no fees or commission is the very least members can do, and they do it gladly and with good grace.

Perhaps I am getting old (late 30's), or perhaps I just can't be bothered with the idiots who will automatically argue for the sake of arguing (perhaps I was one of them once), but I like the gentlemanly ambiance of TZ. It is an oasis of calm and old-fashioned manners.

I like that posters are complimentary to each other, friendly, disagree politely, and trade and sell with each other with incredible integrity and honesty.

I only joined it a few months ago, and I have not gone out of my way to offend other members. They in turn have treated me superbly.

Many forums and posters could learn a lot from that.

Good to see you chiming in here banana. I agree 100% with what you said. I have said a fair few negative things about Eddies watches, but I have never been pulled up by Eddie. I have even met him in person and IMHO he is a really decent straight up bloke in the typical old school Yorkshire model. Its easy to forget that the website is not some charity with Eddie as the moderator, it is his lock stock and barrel and in effect we are all guests in his house.

..and another thing, I have real friends I have made through that forum, real ppl that I meet up with from time to time and that shows through in the way ppl deal with each other.

Im struggling to find contact details for Paul Wirdnam, can you point me in the right direction please?
He's an expert on electric watches (but don't let that put you off - he's more than capable with mechanicals as well), and has built this reference site which you can contact him through - www.electric-watches.co.uk (mods, I'm assuming this is ok as it's not a commercial site?)

Tell him Rich sent you wink

Thanks Rich. Can I tell Steve Burrage that you sent me too, because his prices are FAR higher than you were expecting (on everything other than the ETA Tissot theyre the same or dearer than Time Repairs!)? Eg: Manual Seamaster £70 and manual Chronostop £100! frown

I didnt know that we had a common interest in watches Neil. I might start a watch thread on the 944 forum...

Small world hey biggrin. I bought my 968 from Eddie. Keep an eye open for when the race car hits the road, we are about 1.5 weeks away now.

Just to add fuel to the fire, I thought this from the new SniffPetrol was quite apt:

No, you want your topic to be the centre of attention again. If you'd even bothered to read your own topic, you'd see that picture on page three.

I generally agree with you that TZ suffers from an administrator that's maybe a bit on the over-zealous side, but by Christ, this is starting to look like a really childish vendetta now. Let a dead topic die.

Agreed 100%

Loads of people on here use TZ and enjoy it.

lets not turn this great forum into one of those sad "Hi there, I've just been banned from (wherever) isn't it rubbish over there?" places.
