TZ is fascinating and useful, but I always keep well out of the non-watch-related forums.

There's a really strange dynamic in the "off-topic" forums, and it's not to my taste.

I think you should find what you like and stick to it,it's a big world out and it's not all a bit of me!On the other hand TZ has open up alot of different views regarding watches for me.

I just got accepted there, I've learned a lot by trawling through all night.

Shame about this incident, I just stand back when I see this sort of thing on PH now, same as real life.

Not sure what the OP here is actually trying to acheive by running crying about his treatment on another forum.

I believe you need to register during the day.

However as mentioned previously in the thread, you won't be accepted if using a gmail address. Also, it seems the owner won't bother telling you this either. Pretty poor when you consider all the other forums I use have no issue with my email address and manage to keep out the spam bots with a small bit of effort.

I'm not certain as to whether using an alternate free email system such as Hotmail would be acceptable.

Wow. Need to register during the day and can't question the mod and can't have a gmail account

What a pathetic and pedantic corner of the internet it must be.

In the interests of balance, I have received a PM from Eddie which, given its content, I feel free to share here:

Next time you're over there would you mind pointing out the gmail addresses are not, and never have been, banned on TZ-UK please?

I did float the idea of banning ALL free e-mail addresses on the forum last year because all the forum spammers register with free addresses. In the event the idea was dropped because too many forum members only have free e-mail and it would have caused too many problems.

Same reason for closing registration overnight, that's when all the Russian and Chinese spammers try to register, eager to share their "bargains" with us wink .

Really don't see the problem. It's a fantastic forum for emptying your wallet. Oh, wait, that is a problem.

If you don't use your account regularly it gets closed as well (with no notification rolleyes ).
I find all the tugging of the forelock and thanking Eddie for everything not really to my taste so I haven't bothered to try and register again.

And given that it is free to register a forum user on Pistonheads, it's pretty lame that this Eddie character chose to order CJ to post something on this thread, instead of registering himself and setting the record straight.

I don't know the background here, and perhaps CJ is a mod over at TZ-UK, but if I received a private message like that (the tone of 'next time you're over there say this') I'd have told him to eff right off. (not a go at you CJ - in any form)

It's his forum I suppose, and he can run it any way he likes, but it's not good press for prospective members - and gives off the air of that 'local pub for local people' where an exclusive bunch meet up and end up with a completely warped world-view because of the groupthink, and to use an awful Americanism, 'circle-jerk'. I've never attempted to sign up there, despite the fact that it's a forum dedicated to a hobby of mine that would probably be very interesting, purely because of the bad press. Just CBA with arbitrary 'exclusive' arrangements and opacity.

A bit naff, I agree, but I wasn't "ordered". The PM I've posted is verbatim, and it's clearly a request.

I'm not a mod there (or here, for that matter). There is one mod at TZ-UK, and that's Eddie. I know it's not a dig at me, fear not. I agree that it could have been worded better, but hey ho.

Completely agree with this. Places like WatchUSeek and Timezone.com are certainly a lot more welcoming and less obviously cliquey, despite their vast size.

Thanks for those other 2 forums. I’m only just starting to get into watches now that I have some money to indulge in some small way. I went to register of TZ and just found the process so closed off and cliquey (there is no other word for it) it basically makes you feel completely useless and makes the community look very closed off. I’ll check the other 2 as they sound more my cup of tea.

Not a big poster but I've never had a problem with TZ. This Eddie guy always seems reasonable to me.

Roy Taylor's watch forum is another that's OK. RLT Forum

That 'Pistonheads' place isn't too bad, some of them get a bit sidetracked by cars though.

Pistonheads: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

I have. He has some funny ideas about where a vendor's responsibilities extend to when goods don't turn up in the post. He also went to great lengths to (unsuccessfully) dispute my credit card company's chargeback when he refused to refund me for those goods which never turned up.

If you order straps, be very wary of the "Straps and Accessories (First Class)" postage option...

I like the sales section overthere and have made some purchases in the past, Unfortunatly the sales section here is not on par with the TZ one, However as some people have already said whats with this thanking Eddie and TZ for everysale, cant they work on the basis that any decent person would be appreciative for making a sale surely it does not need mentioning by so many its like they are all trying to outdo each other, I appreciate Eddie more than you do ! oh no you dont !

Hopefully in the Forum world im sure many there are aware of the discussions going on here and will be reading and realising how much of a cock they sound ! smile

Other than that though its a good site.

In which case, next time you're over THERE, ask him why all of a sudden my account was disabled!?

That'll be because this is a car website, not a dedicated watch one wink
