Off topic, but related... I bought a reasonable Swiss watch off TZ, which was advertised as being 'recently serviced' and 'keeping +/-3 seconds per day'. The watch is as described physically, but it loses closer to two minutes per day, than two seconds (and always one minute per day)!

Id be very interested to hear the opinions of other TZ members, with regards to what they would do. At this point I havent contatced the vendor, or made any comment on the H&V thread.

Did you not get any paperwork regarding the service? Depending on the watch it may just be a receipt, but the vendor should be able to supply you with a copy (if high end then definitely should be included in the sale).

Either that, or it has been damaged in transit (can happen easily). I wouldn't go making a post in H&V until contacting the vendor 1st though.

I suspect that this conversation would be better off held via PM, "over there".

Hi All,

I'm a newbie over here, but been on the other forums for some time. I see that things are much more to my liking over here, and like others, just cannot 'get' the TZ attitudes... very cliquey IMO....

Not really the best place for a hello, but 'hi' anyway from Sheffield!

Cheers

Ash

How exactly could I do that? Im courting the opinion of more experienced TZ members; asking what they would do if they found themselves in this position. Even if my user name was similar, the sale was conducted via PM, so this is as good a place as any. In fact: its more appropriate than asking on the site in question.

I used to frequent the forum quite a bit. Then someone posted that he had seen a certain watch for sale at half price in a certain jewellers. Someone from the forum bought it and then promptly posted it in the for sale forum with 50% markup. One chap had the courage to point out this wasn't exactly in the spirit of the community and was promptly ripped to shreds by the regulars. The watch stayed on sale for while.

I've never been back since. Pretty horrible place.

And that's my suggestion; talk to the seller privately via PM.

I see. Im not even sure whether I should do that: the reason being that if I dont make any real progress, then what do I do? I dont want to mention it on H&V because even though its not as described, that seems excessive: it was honestly photographed and described in other respects and I arrived as promised. I cant really insist on the cost of a service, because this will cost 75% of the cost of the piece, but I dont want to pay myself for the same reason. The watch only made sense if it was running as stated.

Christ, that is shocking! I hate cliquey forums, that is why I love what they have done over here as it seems to have eradicated some of the sycophantic postings that the old P&P used to attract.

Getting flamed for upsetting regular posters is, quite frankly, st!

Send the guy a PM to start with. You wont know how to progress if you don't at least do that. If you get no joy and feel you've been genuinely been hard done by then think about a post in H&V.

Was it through inactivity? I think this happens a lot, just request a new password and I expect you'll be fine.
