ok so I've got automatic watches and want to get a reasonable winder for them.

I've been looking at the Rapport Ebony Duo http://www.rapportlondon.com/windersDouble_W262.ht... - some Qs :-

1) anybody any experience & comments on the manufacturer and model?

2) anybody ever used WindIt.co.uk as they seem to have a good price (http://windit.co.uk/products/?pid=W262) and some sort of relationship with Rapport?

3) Are there any other duo models in the sub-£500 range I should be looking at?

I would love to know why watch winders are so expensive. They seem like the sort of thing a kid could make in his D&T class without too much trouble.

I know, only the other day I was looking at thiseek

I believe MTE make the inards of quite a few winders and this outfit have a lot of MTE components (choose "watch winders" and then "watch winder parts"), a two-watch winder mechanism is only £50ish. There must be a huge markup for the distinctly average quality boxes most of them come in. They also have quite a few winders on there.

This single winder for a shade under £60 looks good value here and you can add more should you need.

No experience of windit though.

The B&Z winders are incredibly well built (in terms of the cases). I've had a couple over the years - 2 and 4 watches. They are expensive but the quality does show. I'm not sure about £90k for that one though, but I suppose if you have that many watches you need to keep wound cash might not be an issue.

My favourite was the watch winder you had to wind up yourself.

Haha. Except... you know... G-shocks... shaking the wrist does fk all to them.

An Enzo Mechana or Benarus Moray would work in that, though.

Glad the irony detector was turned on SN! After being sucked into looking at something I don't want or need though I feel I have to share this one - it looks cool I think...

...in a 'Clockwork Orange / Michell Gyrodec' sort of way.

That's more like it price wise. The 4 watch winder in leather seems like a good deal at £149.99 and I think it looks better than a winder badly made in cheap wood.

I got the metal topped one, as it was for a AP ROO, and it looked great, good solid metal and chunky wood box too.

Can't comment on the specific model as I had the 12 winder version. However, the product was rubbish.

They supplied two, both had faults which resulted in them going back for refunds.

Not great at c£2K a throw.
