I've never been a big Rolex fan but the Seadweller has always been one of the plainer models that have appealed to me. I'm on hols at the moment in Orlando and while out shopping yesterday, got talking to one of the assistants in a jewellers at a large mall. He mentioned they have a Seadweller coming in at the weekend. Its new its one they would like to move if possible (don't know why), mentioning a 25% discount on list price. Having mulled it over, I'm thinking it may be a nice purchase but haven't a clue how much they are worth. Anyone any ideas on a reasonable price for it?

The 16600 Seadweller or the Deep Sea?

The original is discontinued, and there seems to be a lot of talk it'll become a classic, but ADs seem to be struggling to shift them.

The original Seadweller 16600 was last sold at £3980, the last batch of 'V' series was delivered into the AD's in the 2nd quarter of this year.
The DeepSea SeaDweller 116600 currently retails at £5760.

An equivalent discount of 25% is absolutely unheard of. Bear in mind that any non EU watch will be liable for duty and VAT when/if you return to the UK.....

Hope this helps.

Sounds dodgy.

Very much doubt a brand new SD would be discounted at all, let alone by 25%

maybe they are talking about a smaller discount but no sales tax to pay? 25% would be very generous.

If theyre offering 25%, go back and tell them you will do the deal for 30%, obviously making sure that it is the "real" thing. As for the customs, just wear it on your journey back to the UK, how many times do you or others get stopped and asked have you just bought that watch, it never happens?

Cheers for the replies. Its the 16600 as far as I know. The jewellers is an authorised Rolex dealer. They also had Omega, Panerai, IWC and Breitling. I was like a kid in a bloody sweet shop. First time I've seen a Panerai and IWC in the flesh. Very impressed with IWC, especially the Portuguese. I'll hopefully be going up there again on Saturday to have a look. The 25% discount is definite, I'm just not sure whether the original price was inflated beyond the normal rrp, hence the question regarding prices. Will let you all know how it goes.

That's OK, but make sure you don't have the box, papers or receipt on you if you get stopped. Get the shop to ship them to you separately.

I was offered 10% off a SD, by an AD in Vegas (in the MGM).
That was their opening offer but I didn't bother trying to get more off as I didn't have the money at the time.

If it is a brand new V series Rolex Seadweller model 16600, it sold for £3980 prior to being discontinued. Since being replaced by the DeepSea 116600, the SD has very quickly sold through. I'd be very surprised to see any left at a UK AD, let alone discounted.
I don't know what the US rrp is, but it should be similar to the UK. The UK list of £3980 at $1.62 is $6447, if you can get 25% off and get down to $4835 I'd jump all over it...

I cam through T3, on one of my trips back to the UK about 2 years ago, new Navitimer on (purchaced in KL at 35% off), got stopped by customs, had the full search they saw the boxes and receipts then asked where the watch was, i showed them on my wrist, nothing was said or mentioned about it. They were more interested in the copied dvd's i had in my case. They were all different titles and all new, they checked for porn, as there was none they let me on my way. So they were not even worried about the watch..

Just a quick update on this. I went back today and as promised, the seadweller was in on special offer. Its a 16600 and brand new. Original retail price was $6400USD, discounted to $5100. They wouldn't go any lower. With sales tax, work out to approx 3,350.00GBP. I mulled it over (for hours) and left empty handed. It is a lovely looking plain watch and I was surprised how small it looked against my Stowa MO. I'm starting to regret leaving it behind. I have to go past the Mall tomorrow on the way to the airport so maybe I'll call in and have another look wink

I am sorely tempted.

£3,350 is a proper bargain.
