Panerai pam048 40mm vs Rolex gmt IIc
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I have a Panerai pam048 bought new by me a couple of years ago and hardly worn.
I have no idea of what they are worth on the 2nd hand market.
Apparently new price is £3,500.
I would think circa £2,800?
I can' t find much of them for sell in the UK. Most are 44mm which are enormous. 40mm is still big but for smaller wrists like mine.
I am looking for a gmt II c in steel instead and was wondering what to pay on the 2nd hand market for an almost new one.
It seems that tz-uk has seen deals going through for 3,450...
Ideally, i would be looking for a swap... Where is the spread??

This should give you some idea of 2nd hand prices :

Seems to be between $4k > $3.5k depending on condition and the year produced.
No idea on the Rolex, I know Watches of Switzerland will off a trade in service, you could try the one in the Royal Exchange ?

ok, thanks so given the current exchange rate about £2,150 / £2,400.
Mine is a 2007 J series so the later ones with quick release bracelets.
I do not really want to sell to the dealers at silly bids.
Are watches generally priced similarly in the US versus the UK?
I understand that daytona' s for example are cheaper in the US. Does the rule apply to all watches as a general rule?

Not sure on that one, I think that the paneristi website is one of the largest 2nd hand markets on line. As such pretty much everyone knows the value of whats being sold. Its not specific to the US, you will see quite a few UK sellers its just that the US seem to have the largest share of the market.

Your problem is the fact that it is 40mm, 99% of people wanting a Panerai want the 44mm.
Whatever you do, do not ring a dealer, the price they will offer you will make you cry!
Are you registered on TZ? That would be a good place to try and sell it
I wouldn't say you would get much more than £2k, if you got a figure starting with a "2" you should be happy. I recently sold a March 09 K serial 112 for £2300 and that was a good price!
In regards to the GMTII Ceramic, you should be able to get a 2009 model for circa £3700. I've got one here, mint condition, which I may consider selling for the right price

I'm looking at Panerai's as a replacement for my GMT II now, I would never consider a 40mm Panerai....just doesn't look right IMO
I'd be happy with a 40mm but after having a good peruse over the last few months I think the figure would for me have to have a 1 at the start of it for any serious consideration .Edited by taffyracer on Saturday 12th September 11:04
