I was persuaded to buy a Yard-o-Led pen.
Nice pens thumbup

Current daily scribblers are a Caran d'Ache Leman, (Black with gold trim - trying to find a red one with gold, but they were discontinued years ago) and a Graf von Faber-Castell Guilloche, both of which I highly rate. The Faber-Castell doesn't balance so well for me with the lid on, but its grown on me considerably.

Best bet really is to try a couple and see what works. I like the look of some pens but just can't get on with them to write with, which after all is the point..

Mont Blanc I've heard variable things about; some really rate, some don't. My only experience probably isn't that helpful; Mont Blancs to me are the choice for someone wanting a first nice pen in the same way that a Submariner is for watches. Thats why I wear a Maurice Lacroix and write with a Caran d'Ache or a Faber-Castell. biggrin

I think thats a perceptive comment - like watches you can acquire safe queens too - I have a new conway stewart and a graf von faber-castell as well that I cant bring myself to ink!

Sorry, back to the OP, I should mention that I owned (and lost frown ) a MB Boheme FP. I think its available at slightly closer to £400 than £300 but worth stretching the budget it if you like it. It has a clever twist mechanism which retracts the nib into the barrel of the pen and it never leaked!

bought my wife this for her b'day

was about 9months or so ago and she still hasnt stopped 'thanking' me if you know what i mean;)
Thanks for all your replies, I am not sure why your OH would leave you for that?

I think that Mont Blanc above is way out of the price range, otherwise I would have gone for that.

I have looked at the Dunhill models and some are very nice, but are they actually good pens?

Chris
Are Montblanc acutally good pens? Everyone I know that has one (about 10 people with them) has problems and they keep sending them back for service etc. Thats why I bought a Pelikan. There are pen review sites on the web
ive had my three for well over 10 years without a single problem.
Thats good I wonder if some people use wrong inks etc which can clog them. I swear by waterman Royal Blue, good colour, doesnt clog but is a bit smelly until dry
I think MB ink is slightly thinker than some brands. I find that if I use 'lesser' inks mine is a bit runny.
