Best Used Submariner for around £2k
Discussion
Hi Guys
I am looking to shortly treat myself to a steel Submariner, and will have around £2k to spend.
I prefer the older watches with the larger markers and curved glass, but I realise they may be more expensive. I am not too bothered if it has a date or not.
I am not well up on the different Submariner model numbers, so any recommendations as to which model and age range to look at would be much appreciated.
Also, any recommendations for used Rolex dealers in London or Edinburgh would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Try here well respected and do have some nice pieces. They are great to do business with over the phone and mail order. I have used them twice nothing but superb

Jesus H Christopher, I'd expect a date on it for £2k! I'd also expect it to make coffee for that sort of money.
Know a lot about Rolex's then? What's encouraging is that traders like Blower's are now selling steel Daytonas at near list price, rather than the crazy premiums of yesteryear. I know Rolex have upped their prices considerably (they used to be around £3.5k list didn't they?) and that, I suppose, makes the watch far less value for money (given that Rolex sold the *exact same watch* a few years ago for £3.5k and now they charge more than £6k... what is the watch actually worth, and makes a mockery of the idea that the price is the cost of the materials, craftsmanship, R&D and a profit for the seller when the same, proven design is hiked £3k without any changes).
However it does stop that silly waiting list / instant profits to speculators or those on the inside - and gives the premium straight to Rolex, I guess, rather than those 'in' who get the 'retail' watches at list and then immediately turn them for £3k profit. Yes, I was one of the fools who had to have one and paid the premium years ago... Long gone now though, the Daytona really is a daily-wear watch. It's tough and practical and looks good with anything. But IMO a daily-wear watch should have a date, and the Daytona has never had a date. It was really frustrating so I went for Breguet's Transatlantique instead, which is a similarly good looking sports chrono but with date and an added flyback complication. Probably cheaper to buy second hand than Daytonas now as well...

Having done some research the 14060 non date seems keen value, and looks good. However, it is not a certified chronometer. Is that important?
Will have a look at this one at Second Time Around today. Has anyone dealt with them? Can I expect a discount? I thought it was 300m
water resistant?

Not important really, no. Although I'm sure that the 14060 is a certified Chronometer, it just doesn't necessarily say so on the face. The current Submariner Non-Date is definitely COSC certified.

It is, mistake on their part. I'd be tempted to look at this at Blower's as well - http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/Submariner_S129...
