Just a heads-up, but if anyone is in the market, Selfridges on Oxford St have 2 of these in stock at the moment (or they did have at 16h on Saturday afternoon) .. as much as I'd like to report a new purchase.

There is no shortage of these at present, not very much demand for them.

I had a look at one in a dealers in Grimsby. Nice'ish but its a VERY chunky piece of kit that does not look that special.

The original SD is far nicer.

Now if only my lad was not in his 4th year at Uni, I could probably afford one of them!

But he has been told, when he gets his highly paid Graduate job.....

I didn't, I bought another IWC. I was just commenting on what it looked like in the steel as I was really quite interested in one.

It's one of those watches where a quick look in the shop isn't enough. You have to wear it for a little while and 'get' the feel of it. Then you'd probably be hooked! It's quite an amazing piece - I'd never part with mine!

I think the Deep Sea is a lovely watch, probably one of the best models Rolex does at the moment. When you see it next to the new Submariner it looks so much better. The shape of the new sub is all wrong in my opinion. It is a bit pricey though, so maybe thats why it's not selling that well.

if you search hard enough on the 2nd hand market, some nearly brand new DS are going for sub £4,500. You won' t find this on p-heads though. Need to look a little harder..
I almost bought one until I tried it on. The problem is how thick this watch is. Much thicker than a panerai luminor 44mm for example. The bracelet is normal rolex type. So it looks very strange in the flesh.

I disagree I think it looks spot on, I don't think the bracelet looks too small at all. If anything the new deep sea looks quite puny against watches like the 55mm U-boat I saw at the Basel fair.

Well this guy likes it enough to make a film about it!

The technical specification is just at the top.
No other watch comes near it??

If someone can point me to a £4.5 brand new one, I'd be tempted not to buy a new Triumph this summer!

If you want to buy an ugly diving watch, why not go for a PloProf? Just as ugly and ungainly as a Deep Sea, and only £4K. Bargain.

Long term I can't see PloProf keeping it's value anywhere near as well as a Deep Sea.

Maybe, maybe not. Have a look at the prices that the original PloProfs fetch. My point was aimed at the aesthetics of the two though. They are big and ugly with no redeeming features, IMHO, unless you are a saturation diver. Can't quite see the point as an everyday wearer, unless you need something to double up as a knuckleduster. But, hey, each to his own.

Maybe I should also state that I have a 7" wrist, and a 16610 Sub looks big on me. Doesn't stop me wearing one though.

I don't think I could get away with a Deep sea either, just too big. Although I do really like it, especially the domed glass.
